Ever since his CPAC Keynote Address in 2010, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has been one of the gold standards of modern American political conservatism. He has also been widely hailed as a political model for conservative African American politicians. And now, following recent revelations surrounding the highly suspicious shooting of Trayvon Martin, Rep. West has joined a growing bipartisan consensus calling for the case to be reopened, possibly even with Federal assistance. Wests statement, put out today by Talking Points Memo, resonates with controlled fury (emphasis added):
itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Treyvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him
.against the direction of the 911 responder. Lets all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

Not everyone on this thread agrees. I've been called emotional and histrionic, as well as supportive of the race-baiters. I just realized something. Apparently First Amendment rights can not only be denied by people on the left, but also by people who claim to be on the right.
All I’m looking for is the facts. I don’t have a need to have them go in one direction over the other. If Zimmerman was defending himself from a thug, then so be it. If Zimmerman initiated an unneccessary confrontation, and is criminally liable, then so be it. I’m only wanting the truth to come out.
Talk about emotional histrionics. The 1st Amendment say "Congress shall make no law.." and you equate differences of opinion to that? LOL
Sorry, I’ve read enough zero tolerance stories to know they suspend kids for stuff that used to be ignored.
Unless somebody can show that whatever he was suspended for was really serious and chronic, I have no choice but to find Trayvon Martin guilty of being a normal teenager.
You see, this is exactly the reason you are being accused of histrionics. No one on this forum can deny you your First Amendment rights. Someone disagreeing with you and providing facts that you can't refute is not tantamount to denying you a right.
Would you say a three day suspension from high school is indicative of serious misbehavior?
Nope. It does support Zimmerman's version of the facts though.
There have been no facts presented by you or anyone else which refutes my position that there are no facts regarding how the confrontation started or who is responsible. The ONLY facts in evidence is that a confrontation occurred and a 17 year old is dead. The only witness, the man who shot the 17 year old has claimed self-defense, and, thus far, the local law enforcment has accepted his word, in my opinion without doing a thorough investigation. The fact that there are so many on this thread who have done their damnest to shut down anyone who is asking for more answers speaks for itself.
That's a very good point.
Of course, that doesn't stop the scumbag Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms from presenting their own agitprop versions of, "the 17 year old's side of what happened".
Yes, you’re a Victim. Your voice has been silenced. Your rights have been taken away. A true Victim if there ever was one.
Ah, I see. The problem is that it need not be proven that he was attacked unprovoked by Martin, because he does not need to be exonerated. Rather, the opposite is true - there must be probable cause that that Zimmerman attacked first to establish this.
The mere fact that it is unknown who attacked first does not establish probable cause for an arrest of Zimmerman.
Page 1 of the police report indicates:
“Was Crime Scene Processed?”.....”Yes”
“Processed By”.....”D47920 Smith, Diana”
Page 3 indicates:
“Lt. Taylor arrived on scene and notified dispatch to have Major Crimes respond to the scene.”
This would have summoned detectives and crime scene technicians.
“Were in the days of the internet. There is little that cannot be found, if people are looking.
If the kid had a serious criminal record, somebody would have found it. If no allegations of a criminal life pops up, odds ate it doesnt exist, not because people arent looking for it.”
Sorry, but juvenile criminal records cannot be found “on the internet”. Even if a docket is found, such records DO NOT CONTAIN THE NAME OF THE SUSPECT, rather their initials.
No. But thanks for playing. There are other interpretations. After reading much of what some have written on this thread I can understand why the media has a field day with their ability to peg conservatives as racists, despite being wrong. The very fact that you and others are not open to other interpretations of events that are unclear gives liberals all the ammunition they need to make those claims. It’s a pity that conservatives keep shooting themselves in the foot on race relations.
“Apparently First Amendment rights can not only be denied by people on the left, but also by people who claim to be on the right.”

I don’t think anyone is trying to stifle your speech, but instead debate with you the merits of what you are claiming.
“Something else to consider here. If this is simply a cut and dried case of self-defense (and perhaps it is), then why would the local law enforcement, knowing the firestorm this incident would create, not be bending over backwards to release every possible piece of information which validates self-defense? I would think they would be doing everything possible to calm things down. But, instead, the Chief is taking a self-imposed resignation? That does not inspire confidence that the police have done their job.”
Some information is kept confidential because it could be evidence in future court proceedings, whether civil or criminal.
The Chief has little choice. His department is being lynched in the court of public opinion (honestly, even you are here saying they’ve not done their jobs) so he is stepping down because he hopes riots will be less likely if the black community feels people are “doing something”.
Well, FRiend, unless someone is calling your character into question, I’d dismiss the contentious arguments as exercises in debate. I rarely encounter an argument that doesn’t offer the opportunity to check the Constitutional ground rules we’re all fighting for. The sparring — it is good.
Ah, yes, the Race Card. When all else fails...
Merits? Which merits are those. Speculation as to what took place prior to the physical altercation and the shooting? Because that is all anyone has, including me. Why are these individuals here so hell-bent on shutting me and anyone else down who are simply asking for answers to questions that have none.
