Halfway through the third month of Republican primary elections, Republican front-runner Mitt Romney holds a narrow lead over rival candidate Rick Santorum among voters nationwide, according to a new poll of Republican voters.
In recent weeks, polls of Republican voters have consistently shown a two man race between Mr. Romney and Mr. Santorum. The latest poll of nationwide voters by the Public Polling Policy finds that Mr. Romney leads Mr. Santorum 34-31 percent. The Massachusetts Republican is trailed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who trails by 20 percent, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul by nine percent.
Mr. Paul has continued to place at the bottom of Republican polls in recent weeks, he seems to have peaked in popularity back in early December and has not seen his loyal cult like following translate into primary victories or popularity among the Republican establishment.
In contrast, Mr. Gingrich and his campaign team have been dismissive of Republican polls throughout the primary race, constantly referring to his reviving of a campaign that was considered dead by the media back in the early fall.
The more surprising stat of the poll, which matches a growing trend from several other recent Republican polls that asked the same question, is that former Alaska Republican Governor Sarah Palin is more well liked by voters nationwide than any of the four remaining Republican presidential candidates.
Ms. Palin came away with 68 percent of the voters viewing her favorably, compared to 20 percent that view her unfavorably. She is trailed by Mr. Romney, as he is viewed favorably by 54 percent of voters nationwide, while 35 percent view him unfavorably.
“The fact that Sarah Palin is now more popular than any of the Republican presidential candidates is a real sign of the toll the campaign has taken on all of the contenders’ images,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “Meanwhile Rick Santorum is struggling and would really need a major change in the race- like Newt Gingrich dropping out- to reverse his fortunes.”
The poll finds that if Mr. Gingrich were to drop out of the race, nearly 50 percent of his voters would vote for Mr. Santorum. That would give the former Pennsylvania senator a 41-40 percent advantage over Mr. Romney, based on the PPP poll results.
The PPP poll was conducted between March 15 and March 17 among 734 likely Republican primary voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

When we have Romney’s Communication adviser talking about “ecto sketches”, his flip flops, Romneycare, LOW turnouts, and a pis-posh-pashaw attitude, then it’s THEY who sound pretty goofy.
You won’t get anywhere as long as we have RINOs at the helm.
Tnere are multiple layers of vetting in some states. I know in the caucus states, the precincts send a bunch of delegates to the state convention, but they get whittled down to a smaller group to go to the national convention. In Pennsylvania, they’re directly elected, and it sounds like from one article that the state party plays a huge role in whose names get on the ballot. Ron Paul’s people are of course trying to pretend to support other candidates to get selected as delegates, and who knows if people who might prefer Rick or Newt are doing the same thing.

The Gelding Old Party is headed for the glue factory. It’s all smoke and mirrors. The collective GOP are feckless losers. Palin is an ember that needs a new home to start the fire that kills the deadwood called the GOP.
People have to run for office to win. Just the way it is.

Our Lady of Wasilla gives a speech that wows the crowd. About half-way through, chants of “run, sarah, run” are heard under the applause.
About three-quarters of the way through, no applause is heard, because every pause is filled with “RUN, SARAH, RUN!”
She doesn't get to finish the speech— the text is later published in her Presidential Memoirs— because she can't get a word in with all the “RUN, SARAH, RUN!”
She steps away from the podium, and the MC gavels the place into some sort of order— at least to the point when the PA can be heard over the crowd. This takes 38 minutes. Two major networks cut away...
..and miss the part where the MC places the name of Sarah Heath Palin into nomination; the chairman of the Alaska delegation seconds, and the nomination is made “by acclamation.”
In my dreams... but I'll be waiting.
Remember last year around the time of the Iowa straw poll, all these polls were saying people did not want Palin to run or enter the race? It’s amazing how much Republican rank-and-file are swayed by the MSM. Even if they hate the MSM, they seem to believe that there are certain candidates the MSM can destroy and certain ones they can’t. But the only ones they can’t destroy in reality are ones where they haven’t tried yet. We wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in now if the average Republican voter wasn’t so ignorant of what we’re fighting and who the enemy is. We have to pick the best candidate and defend them, not constantly make sacrificial lambs out of every candidate the media tries to take the scalp of.
In all honesty, this poll didnt say that people wanted her to run now. They just view her in a good light. Romney got over 50 in the favorability, but that doesnt mean all those people are voting for him in the nomination or want him to run.
