As of tonight your candidate cannot be placed in nomination in Tampa per RNC rules. Rule 40. Mine can. What is your rationale for continuing?

Can you elaborate?

What he refers to is rule 40 (b):

Each candidate for nomination for
President of the United States and Vice President of the
United States shall demonstrate the support of a
plurality of the delegates from each of five (5) or more
states, severally, prior to the presentation of the name of
that candidate for nomination.

This pretty well hoses a dark horse late entrant at the convention as well, I believe.

I’m not running, so I have no rationale as to the issue.

If you’re asking me what Newt’s rationale might be, I suspect he intends to be President.

Rick Santorum can’t win the nomination outright either. What’s his rationale?

I would like some clarification. Does the rule state that the candidate must take those delegates via an election process or that he just must have a plurality. If it is the latter then Gingrich can become a nominee legitimately after the first round of delegates votes, if the convention is brokered. The second round five states can send their delegates to him. Therefore, Gingrich could be a legitimate nominee.

There are very many delegates yet to make their choice since there are many states yet to have their primary. By June it will be much more clear as to who has the most delegates....and the most BOUND delegates.

I believe this race is far from over.

There are proportional decisions to be made, particularly in Florida, that will advantage Newt, before an unknown number of Newt’s delegates will want to bale for Romney.

Don’t you think we should delay that as long as possible, until Rick snaps out of it to form together with Newt, an alliance against Romney?
