Peyton Manning will become the next quarterback of the Denver Broncos, barring a snag during intensified contract negotiations that have commenced under the instruction of the four-time MVP to his agent Tom Condon, according to multiple sources.
Once the Manning deal becomes official, Denver will try to trade Tim Tebow, according to sources.
A contract between the two sides is expected to be a formality. Elway and Manning first discussed the parameters of a five-year, $95 million contract during their March 9 meeting in Denver, the first time the quarterback visited a team during his free agency.
Elway then told Manning during the Friday, March 16 trip to Durham, N.C. -- where the quarterback has done the majority of his training -- that he wanted to finalize a contract "fair to both sides." Neither side expects any hangups.
However, details such as guaranteed money, structure of the deal and contract language designed to protect the Broncos in the event of Manning's inability to perform due to his prior neck surgeries all will be addressed in the contract, sources said.

You guys can have him. Though I think it's very unwise to toss Tim Tebow to the curb for a 36-year-old QB that is past his prime and coming off what was close to being a career-ending injury. At best, he's got maybe 2-3 good years left in him. Let's hope the Bronco's offensive line can protect him because one hard hit could end his career for good.
As for Tebow, I hope the Patriots are able to trade for him. Tom Brady is only a couple years younger than Peyton and it's time to start grooming a replacement QB of the future. Also, New England is a very religious area and Tebow will fit in much better around these parts.

Agree. I think Manning would have been smart to negotiate a deal with the Broncos as the Quarterback Coach to Tebow and also Assistant Offensive Coordinator.
With the Colts, Manning was basically running the offense and calling the majority of the plays.

Elway understands what is needed to compete at a Super Bowl level versus just a playoff spot level. Nothing against Tim Tebow - I like the guy and think he's an asset to the team - but when one of the best QB's to play the game comes on the free agent market it's a once in a generation opportunity.
This could erase several mistakes from the McDaniel era.
I was thinking the same thing. How stable is his neck? I would not put all my eggs in one basket over such an iffy recovery. I hope the money is guaranteed.
Manning is 10 years older than Rodgers and only has one or two realistic years ahead of him.

Well...let’s see...four neck surgeries in the last 18 months and 36 years-old might be indicators. And, while he is neither stupid nor in any difficulty financially, like other star professional athletes he may well be emotionally averse to leaving the game and giving up the limelight. If so, he wouldn’t be the first athlete to succumb. In Manning’s case, however, it might carry a very high price tag.
All speculation on your part. Not everything is about politics or religion. Sometimes personnel directors just want to get the best people available.
Exactly, its a win now league. I listen to Pat Kirwan and Gil Brandt, and they both say there is constantly a battle in front offices between coaches/owenrs and personnel departments. The personnel depts (scouts, GMs) try to acquire long term talent, but coaches are almost always focused on how do we win a Super Bowl this year. The owner is usually a tiebreaker, but most of the time looks for the instant win himself (Redskins, Cowboys, Raiders). The coaches dont have the luxury of waiting 5 years for the GM’s plans to come true.
If Denver wins a SB with Peyton, it will have been worth it.
