There is no irreconcilable difference, not between the GOP and 'Rats, not between Boehner and Pelosi, not between McConnell and Reid. I believed it for a generation-- slow to learn, I was-- but now I know that if DeMint really says that, he is lying.

I understand you to mean that the actual Republicans in office are no longer upholding traditional Republican philosophy; and I sadly must agree; although I believe deMint is intending to compare true Republican philosophy to the devolved Democrat philosophy of socialism leading to communism. We need to throw them all out.

In addition, see the last section of post 32.

It’s possible, but Newt has to convince the smaller group of idiots before he can begin to convince the larger group of idiots, and he has not done so.

There really is no point in wishing or hoping at this point, the reality is that we are going to have a piss poor idiot of a RINO for the gop candidate, which is -unprecedanted- in the history of gop candidates, and by unprecendanted I mean that Ronald Regean was the only time in my life that this did not occur.

This is what the GOP does, and this is all that it does. I think that after obama is defeated, God willing, it will then be time to rid this country of the useless, gutless, worthless GOP.

Every good teacher who loves their subject turns it into edu-tainment. Franklin could do that, and Reagan. And Newt, of course.

I was just thinking that the secret to Reagan's success was his reputation as "the Great Communicator" -- which was sadly missing from the Dubya years. Newt is a lot more sharp-edged than the genial Reagan, but in this situation, he needs to be. And I agree -- we really need a great communicator again.

PS
I'd vote for "The Rent is Too Damn High" before I'd see Obama elected again.

Great Communicators through the ages have been historically silenced by the Pharisees of their time.

They would burn Newt at the stake if they could. Or crucify him.

They control the media, so all they have to do, so far, is make sure he doesn’t get heard.

Interesting perspective, even if it turns out this is something of a fictional account.

The first thing we ought to do is get away from the delusional notion that we're dealing with a Republican vs. Democrat issue here. Party politics has little to do with this, and the GOP has been complicit in nearly everything we like to blame on the Obama administration. A good indicator of this is that when I look back at the Bush administration and try to come up with historical parallels in U.S. history, the two presidents who I find most similar to Bush were Woodrow Wilson and Lyndon Johnson. These are hardly ringing endorsements for a Republican candidate, especially when you realize that LBJ may very well have been the worst president of the second half of the 20th century.

Secondly, let's stop with this nonsense that somehow Newt Gingrich (of all people) is ever going to "fix" anything if he's elected president. As a career Beltway hack, he's part of the problem, folks. He goes from Congress to a lobbying career in Washington (including lobbying for "green energy," Medicare prescription drugs, and a bunch of other things that are part of the problem), then crawls out of a hole in 2012 and tries to present himself as the guy who will fix things in Washington?

If the GOP doesn’t have the stones to do anything about Barry’s recess appointments when there was no recess and they can’t speak up agains’t Friday’s executive order or even issue a contempt citation for the the little Satan Eric Holder over Fast and Furious then why would we think they are going to repair America? They are probably complicit in the takeover. I have seen no evidence to the contrary.

Welfare was cut by 50%. Does that mean anything to you?

See link below. You can adjust the range for any time period. I suggest (1994 - 2001). I don't see welfare spending dropping by 50%.

...let's stop with this nonsense that somehow Newt Gingrich... is ever going to "fix" anything if he's elected president. As a career Beltway hack, he's part of the problem...

One of the things I have always been bemused by is the ability of lawyers to defend either side of a given situation, or of doctors to treat both the gunshot victim and the wounded shooter in the same ER. When one of my kids was in a debate team, the kids had to be able to argue both the affirmative position and the negative position on the same topic. When my same kid went to the Introductory session at university, the speaker said that a high percentage of freshmen entering had been in debate, and most of them had been captains of their team, which my kid had been -- meaning he had had to prepare the entire team for both sides of any assigned topic.

That said, we all want a president with strong and true conservative bona fides. But having leaned this way or that in the course of a long career does not automatically disqualify a candidate in my opinion, unless the leaning went all the way into treason, which is not the case with Newt (but most probably is the case with the Chicago mob).

The issue is that the Tea party was not a threat to the Dems, but the GOP. They worked quickly to destroy it.

oh, Albion I think folks like US know Loughner was a left wing psycho, but if you queried the ‘man on the street,’ or the average ABC/NCB/etc news viewer, they’d assure you the shooting was all about the ugly tone of political discourse in the country brought about by Republicans and that vicious Tea Party. Nothing about the actual shooter or his political leanings.

Just google “giffords shooting” and see what shows up. You don’t have to do much scrolling to see pix of Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh! This Administration is good at propaganda if nothing else.

I say we write in the name “Sarah Palin”.

Unquestionably the best. Far better than anyone else in sight. But whether we can get everyone on board, I don't know.

On the other hand, it would be a real job to get everyone on board for ANY candidate. That's our problem.
