Family: Man didn't kill black teen in self-defense

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) -- Calls made to police show that a black teenager was terrified as he tried to get away from the white neighborhood watch volunteer who shot him, and that the volunteer was not defending himself as he has claimed, the teen's family told The Associated Press on Saturday.

I didn’t see anybody from law enforcement identify the screams for help as coming from the dead teen. As far as I can tell only his family members claim he was the one screaming for help on the recording. Does anybody have more information about this?

This case seems pretty cut-and-dry: An armed man follows and confronts an unarmed teen and then shoots and kills him. Everyone should be outraged. This appears to be one of those stories in which the family and their supporters are justified in their outrage.

Yep - too many are too eager to jump on the side of the person exercising his 2nd Amendment rights and turn a blind eye to the small percentage that turn out to be bad apples. We all want to believe that it has to be a hit piece,because of the fear that the minute percentage of those who carry guns and do bad will give the Left reason to take them away. All they need to do is remember Charlton Heston's remark, while holding a rifle above his head, "...from my cold dead hands".

This does not even appear to be an over-zealous citizen making an arrest after witnessing a crime. It APPEARS only one crime was committed. Even if the kid pulled a knife on the street to protect himself against another armed man, the deceased appears to be a murder victim.

I agree, the local media here (I live in Central Florida)has the guy convicted with no evidence. The Sanford police may be incompetent or they may not be. We need both sides and it needs to be done in a court of law not with TV cameras interviewing people.
We need Paul Harvey to come back and give us the "Rest of the Story".

We need the truth and not some news story. One of the TV stations here is always saying "Only Channel 9 knows" or only channel 9 has the complete interview etc. etc. etc. . . . . . .

The Orlando news paper says you can hear the screams and the guy shot twice not once, he must have missed the first shot. But the fact is he had no legal right to get out of the car and chase the kid nor follow him for that matter.

You left out an important step. You said "confronts...and then shoots" yet all accounts state that there was some sort of physical fight before the shooting. Why did you leave out the fight? Are you deliberately lying in service to some agenda?

Have either of you listened to the tapes?

Have you listened to a recording of Zimmerman's 911 call in its entirety? I have not and I don't know where to find it. The recording provided with the linked AP article seems to be an edited montage of multiple separate 911 calls.

So what if Zimmerman approached Martin with his weapon concealed and simply asked whether Martin lived nearby and in response to this Martin rushed Zimmerman and started punching him in the face?

If that was the case, would it be murder for Zimmerman to draw his weapon and defend himself?
