Gingrich Calls on Romney to Stop Negative Ads.
CBS News ^ | March 16, 2012 | CBS News, Staff

Newt Gingrich demanded Friday that Mitt Romney stop the barrage of TV attack ads that badly damage him and Rick Santorum each time they seemed poised to make big strides in the GOP presidential race.

Admitting to Louisiana voters that he can't match Romney and a pro-Romney super PAC in fundraising, Gingrich repeated a plea that thus far the front-running Romney has ignored.

"I challenge Gov. Romney and his super PAC to pledge to take every negative ad about every Republican off the air, because it dishonors them, it weakens the Republican Party, and it helps Barack Obama," Gingrich told a cheering outdoor crowd of more than 200 in Covington.

Romney has said he doesn't control the super PAC, Restore Our Future, which has aired most of the hard-hitting ads.

“Is Newt setting Romney up for something ? “

I suspect that Newt is simply continuing to build a case for the convention. This will give him a couple more paragraphs to use in addressing how unfit Romney is, and would be, against Obama.

The Romney and Saintorum people are making a big mistake in underestimating Newt.... and over estimating their guy.

AND, Newt is right on the issue.

Willard will never stop the smear campaign. He knows what he has to do to win. At this point I hope Newt stays in and trys to make a fight of it at the convention.

"...with an admonishment to not be an anti-Mormon bigot, it was game over."

So romney has the religious bigot card ready to play. Well that makes sense since conservatives are all bigoted bible thumpers, most of whom can't read or write... everybody knows that.

The arrogance, though, infers a power that he must know he has behind him... that post about Newt and Rick, which you did, really may be the only way to clear him out before the convention...

A friend wrote me today and said the reason the dems are preparing to fight romney in the general election is not because they feel he will or can win the nomination on paper or by his virtue, the GOP powers have promised them romney, and they know the GOP will deliver on its promise. That is really horrible if that's true... like this was scripted months ago... and we're just watching it unfold. But mostly, we are being played, big time.

Greetings true believer forever:

My folks live in the Chicago suburbs. Myth is exclusively running anti-Santorum advertising in Chicago MSM market. 100% saturation of the television, radio, and endless robo-calls. The Myth Romney anti-Santorum talking points are remarkedly the same as the copy-paste crap we see the FreeRepublic trolls pimp in the name of Gingrich support. Coincidence?

Illinois RINOs managed to bounce all the Santorum delegates from our congressional district ballot which leaves only delegates pledged to Myth, RuPaul, or Gingrich as a choice.

Not willing to ever trust RuPaul delegates. Would hope Gingrich delegates will not ever cast a ballot for Myth; but from what I see posted here by alleged conservatives who exist only to bash Santorum, I’m not feeling confident.

Cheers,
OLA

By Mittens saying that Conservatives will have to come around and support him...he is admitting that he isn’t one.

Typical of his patronizing and arrogant attitude..

jeez. Milt has to realize he's going to turn off most republican voters with that tactic.

It tells us what little he thinks of us and our intelligence.

Everybody, including Mark Levin and Rush, are making a big mistake underestimating Newt. Maybe 17 days ago, Newt started the 2.50 gal aspect of his campaign. He wanted to rebrand his campaign to that issue - quickly - and a lot of stuff was sent out to field and grassroots staff. everybody double downed, all the little newt stickers of gas pumps, newt's stop at gas stations, a drilling site in MS... small time, newt gas pump signs, stuff any local campaign can do without a lot of money or bigtime support.

Today, on Fox and Friends, they pointed out to Newt how Obama is now using some of Newt's talking points about gas, the obama campaign is in full throttle response to Newt's gas campaign, talking about energy and oil, just as the economy is starting to lose a little steam as a campaign issue. And people are still saying Newt can't win. Newt is setting the agenda.

You are a “no way Rick”, right? Should we Rick supporters say “no Newt” also? He can’t win without all the base. Many of Newts fans were saying that RIck is working with romney. Why would romney be spending millions in robo calls and ads attacking Rick if they were working together? Rick is nothing like Romney & Newt has also done some things I’m sure he wishes he could take back. RIck made mistakes just like Newt in the past. They both changed. If we can forget Newt past, why not Rick. If you look at Rick’s voting record, he became more conservative over the years. His lifetime Senate ACU average is 92.1%. Or is it he believes in God and actually walks the walk that bothers Newt supporters?

Smear campaigning is the only way Myth knows. To the best of my recollection he did the same in his last bid. I’d like to see it go to the convention as well.

The outcome might well be the same, but at least there might be a little bit of opposition this time.

Now, we really are in the Twilight Zone. For 3 days, Santorum supporters are pleading with Palin on her Fb to ask of Newt to drop out and to encourage him of endorsing Santorum. Many of those posters were constantly posting mean posts of Newt/they are pleading for Sarah to make Newt leave and endorse their candidate. The more the days pass, the worse the name calling comes for Newt. The problems of those 2 camps are becoming worse. One will have a hard time asking Newt’s supporters to vote for saint rick...

You make a great point: “ - - - Romney’s tactics disgust me. “ The more Romney/PACmen run these ads the more they will “sputter in the gutter” to more and more voters.

One other thing that Newt should point out is that Romney has proven to be a BIG SPENDER in this Primary Campaign.

Will Romney be a BIG SPENDER if he is elected POTUS?

Newt should pose that question, IMHO.

Gingrich/Santorum... maybe.

Only if Newt were the President would I even consider such and arraignment.

Yeah, he walks the walk (not). List of things he's done.

I think 99% of RS supporters would switch to Newt in an instant if RS would drop. and i would bet vice versa is true no matter what the polls say.

RS isn't a saint but him and Newt can save us from this repeat nightmare the RINO’s are trying to push us into.

You can’t put Gilligan at the top of the ticket and ask the Professor with the brains to be second. Newt would be bored silly. He wants Big changes. I have to go. I am sorry, I don’t trust Santorum -the media will eat him alive like they did Dan Quayle. Just wait-they cannot take Rick down too soon in case Newt rises.

BTW, Newt, don’t worry about the mud. Ponder the uglyness of the PACmen’s hands, and remember that all political mud has true grit in it, so when it is wiped off the grit adds a nice shine to your armour.

Gator, I think we discussed it before, but it’s time for Newt to change his tune- now or never. He’s been saying throughout that he would unite around the eventual nominee- which is proper to say in a fair fight. But, this fight has been anything but fair.

In response to the Gop-e’s orchestration of this pantomime of a primary, and Romney/Wall Street slash and burn— Newt should intimate that the conservatives might well bolt the party. Make clear that the non-Romneys constitute the overwhelming majority of the republican voters, and the minority Gop-e is trying to hijack the process.

Shake it up- he’s got nothing to lose at this point–. Romney and the Gop-e sit back smugly thinking the majority grassroots have no where to go- well, the hell with them– make them think otherwise.

I, sadly, must agree with your friend. I have had the feeling this was “scripted” for a long time. And it probably isn't the first time. People are more tuned in and have alternate news sources that we didn't have in the past.

The GOP even had representatives (Connie Mack, etc) at Newt's Fla events to discount him. Although I haven't read it, they probably have done the same to Santorum.

The thing that may not be scripted, or expected, is the fact that Mitt hasn't wrapped this up. I feel that is why he got such grief after Super Tuesday. It was like he hadn't won a darn thing.

I don't think the “powers that be” (Mitt included) expected Rick to garner support or Newt to stay in.

Both Newt and Rick need to stay in as long as possible. Not only does it confound the GOP and reduce Romney's delegate count, it makes The Won’s current campaign unable to focus on one opponent. Right now all they have is “insert Republican’s name here” is bad.

Did you see the post on another threat that romney supporters have been going into conservative blogs and calling themselves Newt supporters only to trash RIck? So that Rick’s supporters would go to romney. Ain’t going to happen.
