(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama has tried to portray himself as a champion of the average American against a wealthy elite. However, a new Rasmussen poll found that 65 percent of union members say they believe Obama is more liberal than they are.
The poll also found that 59 percent of likely voters think Obama is more liberal than they are, an increase of 7 points from last month.
When asked if in political terms President Obama is more conservative, more liberal, or about the same, 59 percent of respondents answered Obama is more liberal than they are, while 11 percent said he is more conservative, and 25 percent said they have views that are about the same as the president.
The pollster recorded that 65 percent of likely voters who are also union members said they think the president is more liberal than they are--7 percentage points more than the non-union respondents who feel the same way.
The survey of 1,000 likely voters nationwide was conducted on March 7-8.
Rasmussen posed the same question but instead applied it to Republican and Democratic members of Congress. 62 percent of respondents believe the average Democrat in Congress is more liberal than they are, and 47 percent believe the average Republican in Congress is more conservative.
Question #4 of the survey asks: Would it be more accurate to describe the agenda of Republicans in Congress as mainstream or extreme? Forty-six (46) percent of respondents described the Republican agenda in Congress as extreme whereas 41 percent thought mainstream was a more apt description, which is a decrease of six percentage points from February.
Conversely, 50 percent viewed the Democratic agenda as extreme and 38 percent chose to describe it as mainstream.
The Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows President Obama slightly behind Gov. Mitt Romney in a hypothetical 2012 presidential race. As of March 15, 26 percent say they strongly approve of the Presidents job performance and 41 percent strongly disapprove.
I’ll bet 65% would also say that Barry is more anti-American than they are.
May be, but you can bet your a$$ they'll obediently vote for him when ordered to!
I won’t take that bet, I know they will.
Yessir. The average union member I know disagrees with Democrats on many, many issues, but obediently pulls the lever for them each election to keep the money flowing in their direction. (Oh, yes, I know he’s an a-hole. But my job depends on this funding...)
That is because 40-45% of union workers are republicans. They are tired of having their dues go to the democrats. I have lots of family who are and were in unions.
Kinda explains why Romney does so well in the more northern states...
So why don’t they vote outside the box for once. Why don’t they smarten up and keep that dues money in their own pockets.
I am a union member, a Job Steward, and am on the executive board in my local.
I have never, and will never vote for a Democrat.
I chose to participate and pay dues because I see how employees without an employment contract are paid and treated by my employer.
It is an error in judgment to stereotype union members and assume that membership mirrors national leadership regarding political matters.
