It's going to be a tough sell. But that didn't deter Mitt Romney from pitching himself as an unofficial Southerner on his 'away game' in the Deep South. Taking to the podium in jeans and a buttoned-up shirt, the presidential contender told a crowd at the Port of Pascagoula on his first rally in Mississippi that he was gradually becoming one of them.
'I'm learning to say "y'all" and "I like grits". Strange things are happening to me,' he said jokingly. Romney welcomed the endorsement of Governor Phil Bryant during his 15-minute address last night in front of dozens of supporters. He did not mention his Republican opponents at all.

OOOoooooh! Boiled peanuts! I want some!
Romney reminds me of Navin R. Johnson (Steve Martin) in “The Jerk”, trying to dance with his sharecropper family.
I have it on good authority that the first time Mitt saw grits he said,” no thanks, I have someone do my hair.”
all smiled
Romney is like John Kerry... squared. Aloof awkwardness and a history of flip-flops as far as the eyes can see.

You can take the r5ich trust fund baby out of the city..
but you cant take the city out of the rich trust fund baby..
and Ive said it before
Willie Mitty doesnt look good in jeans...
He and Obama have the same girly butt...
Will he try to be da homeboy when he speaks in front of blacks? THAT should be fun!!
Why, bless his little heart.
Have you forgotten the magic underwear? Some Mormons I've known are rather embarrassed about it.
Looks like he had his Juan F kerry “Kin ah git me a huntin license hear” moment.
Mitt can say dumb crap like this all day ling down here.
I don’t care.
I just want to know who the suckers are that are buy’n this act.
Bless his heart, indeed.
So many politicians do this sh*t. Whether talking to blacks, southerners or whomever, they think some false effort at talking like them gains acceptance.
That fakery by Hillary in 2008 was priceless. Not only did she try (and failed badly) to effect a black drawl when reading that poem in a black church, but she continued to try to do the “southern girl” thing while campaigning in southern states.
Pathetic, irritating and condescending.
You’re just playing the Marxists’ game. The loathsome Kennedy Family has ten times the money of Romney and was arguably the country’s most ruthless organized crime family in the last century, but it doesn’t matter because few know it. The biggest failing of American conservatives of the last 40 years is failing to create a media and a culture of conservatism that treats it as well as the Rancid Media have kissed the asses of the Kennedys and their assorted grotesque political allies. Conservatives have only themselves to blame.
Why I could never be a politician. I could never claim to like grits with a straight face.
I agree. It’s cringe-inducingly weird.
no I havent...
Thats why he leaves his sleeves rolled down...
but if he wants to be a “I’m not a Southerner but I play one on the stump like a bad bit player”
then he needs to lose those citified long sleeves...
and “buttoned down” ???
GROAN...
we’uns think hes still a phony..
Willie Mitty’s idea of goin country is to leave the chauffeur and the other cars at home and drive one of his Cadillacs...
his wife driving and him sitting in the back...
Well heck fire, that there’s nothin’, Al Gore cleared the land with a double-bladed axe. And after than he done ate all his taters’
It’s a disease that technology spread. Even Reagan went from folksy to elevated depending on where he was campaigning. The last pre-media president was Truman. Starting with Eisenhower image became more and more important. In just a few short years Kennedy became the first celebrity president and it hasn’t budged since.
And cringe-worthy.
These politicians have no handlers that can tell them to knock it off?
I’m a transplanted Yankee.
The first time I ever had grits, in Charleston SC, I put butter on them then sugar and milk.
The ol Georgia boys at the table were like WTF?
I thought they were cream of wheat!
Man they won’t ever let me live that **** down!
