Sherman killed no (or very, very few) United States citizens on his march through Georgia, contrary to your assertion. So your suggestion is that Lincoln didn't recognize these people as citizens of the united States?

"So your suggestion is that Lincoln didn't recognize these people as citizens of the united States?" Again, Lincoln had nothing to do with the citizens of Georgia or any other Confederate State renouncing their citizenships. They were not coerced or forced to do so by Lincoln or anyone else. Ordinences of Secession were freely passed. We can rightly critcize Lincoln for doing any number of sketchy things from a constitutional standpoint, but he was not killing US citizens when making war on the Confederacy. That's all I'm saying.
