The election of President Barack Obama in 2008 triggered an explosion in the number of militias and so-called patriot groups in the United States, the Southern Poverty Law Center reported in its annual tally of such anti-government organizations.
There were 149 militias and patriot groups when Obama took office, compared to more than 1,200 today an increase of 755 percent, the nonprofit civil rights organization reported.

"The increase has just been astounding," said Mark Potok, editor-in-chief of the SPLC report. "The reality is that many of these groups are becoming more and more fearful that Barack Obama will win the re-election. You can see the anger rising along with that fear."

I have one of the top Hutaree members living less than a mile away.
Oddly enough I don’t fear him.
Forget it.
Just move to the Republic of Panama.
As Andrew Breitbart would say...”So?”
ANYONE who reports ANYTHING the splat has to say as ‘news’ needs to stick their finger in their mouth, hold their nose, and blow their brains out...IF they can find them.
First CNN and now msnbc...the others will be along shortly. You can take it to the bank the source of all this is the tone deaf WH/DNC.

If the SPLC would simply look and our Constitution, they would realize that the militias are simply working to defend the people of this country from all threats foreign or domestic. Which is completely in keeping with the purpose of any government, and thereby cannot be, by definition, anti-government.
Only MSNBC would give the SPLC any credibility anymore. Morris Dees is a one-man band, still beating the drum from the lawsuit he won against the KKK years ago. To listen to him, you’d think that a dozen black-toothed inbreds in an Arkansas trailer park are the single greatest threat to national security.
I had to handle security for a visit he made to a local college branch campus. God, you’d think he was Netanyahu visiting Gaza, with the demands they were trying to make. Presidential candidates didn’t ask for what he was asking.
Go away Dees, your propaganda is boring me.
I aint movin. I stayin here and defending what God and my forefathers gave me. I got nothing better to do.
hear hear!
“...patriot group”?
Is he referring to Tea Party Patriots like my grandma?
perfect!!!!!!!!
If I remember right, a rise happened during the Clinton admin. Probably more so today though.
Wasn’t it the President himself who called for the creation of a ‘civilian militia’ just as powerful as our military, and just as well funded?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt2yGzHfy7s
