Kerrey Bows Out of Neb. Senate Race, GOP Win Likely

Former Sen. Bob Kerrey has decided against trying to regain his Nebraska seat in the November elections, almost certainly gifting it to Republicans, RealClearPolitics reports. Incumbent Ben Nelson, considered the most conservative Democrat in the upper chamber, is retiring and Kerrey was seen as the Democrats’ last best chance for keeping the seat in the blue column. But after weeks of toying with the idea, Kerrey decided not to run, according to RealClearPolitics. “I have chosen what I believe is best for my family and me,” he said in a statement released Tuesday. Kerrey was running well behind Republicans vying for their party’s nomination. A Rasmussen Reports poll released Tuesday showed him 22 points behind the favorite, state Attorney General Jon Bruning; 18 points behind former Attorney General Don Stenberg; and 12 points behind state Sen. Deb Fischer. Kerrey decided to bow out shortly after those poll results were released. A Kerrey candidacy would have forced Republicans to expend a significant amount of money and resources in Nebraska, RealClearPolitics reports. Now the GOP — which had targeted Nebraska even before Nelson's retirement announcement — is in better position to win a majority in the Senate, which requires a net gain of four seats. This article makes no sense. This didn’t happen today, I thought it happened months ago. And then he changed his mind, and announced he was running on February 29th of 2012.

But then a poll did show he was losing the race, — but I can’t find any indicating that he’s dropped out a second time, so it seems NewsMax is recycling an old story. But who knows, as it has today’s date on it....

It may be a coincidence but he decided to jump in when Snowe from Maine decided not to run for re-election.
He drops out shortly after Angus King, a former governor of Maine (Independent) annouces he is running for Snowe’s position and the two rate congress critters (one moonbat Pingree) decide not to run.
I am wondering if polling shows lots of losses for the Dem’s in Senate-why run if you are going to be in the minority?

Wouldn’t King caucus with the Dims if he’s elected?

There are two Independents in the senate now and both caucus with the Dims. Which party do you think King would caucus with if he became a senator?

This story seems bogus. It was published today. But Newsmax is basing its report on a February 7th article from RealClear.

Since then (2/7), Kerrey changed his mind and announced a couple of weeks ago.

I am sure King will caucus with the Dems but the point is the Dem who thought that she would just walk into the seat-1st district congress critter, Maine’s own moonbat, Chelle
Pingree decided not to run.

Yes. National Democrats will back him in the same way they do the VT Socialist party member Bernie Sanders.

“I have chosen what I believe is best for my family and me...”

Believe me, he would not have pulled out in order to do what’s best for the Nation.

But I am glad that he values the best interest of his family and himself over the Dem. Party.

I don’t see anything from the local news outlets on this (KETV, WOWT, KPTM, KMTV).

Bob Kerrey is out in NE. Saw the horrendous polling data and dropped out.

Bob Kerrey has changed his mind AGAIN!!! He’s starting to remind me of Mitt Romney. Now that the seat is safe again, we need to get to the business of electing TEA Party conservative Don Stenberg over Establishment Hack Jon Bruning. No need to play it safe here.

All three of the potential GOP opponents outpolled him. He is just another has-been Democrat retread — like Fritz Mondale — who thought he’d turn back the clock.

I think the gays ran him out. I read the other day that he opposed gay marriage in about 2000.
