A local school district is apologizing after an apparent incident of racism at a boys high school basketball game this past weekend.
When the final whistle blew Saturday, Alamo Heights celebrated a convincing victory over San Antonio Edison.
Alamo Heights Head Coach Andrew Brewer said he was proud of his team.
Tremendously proud, Brewer said. Tremendously. Its the best group of kids.
But it was just after the trophy presentation when the coach was not proud of the chant coming from Alamo Heights fans.
USA, USA, USA, they chanted.
San Antonio Independent School District officials took the chant as a racial insult to a school with all minority players from a school with mostly white ones.
On the KSAT 12 Defenders Facebook page, Santos Villarreals post reads this has to stop.
Did they play the National anthem before the game? If so, how is that any different from the “USA” cheer after the game?
Please tell me this is a joke.....even if it isn’t.
Barbra Streisand!
Yes. You watch, that’ll be next to go.
These miscreants should be sent to re-education camps for intense reprogramming.
I wish all of the politically correctophiles would just F* Off!
I don’t know which is worse: deeming the “USA” chant as racist or the stupidity of apologizing.
What’s next, banning the flag and national anthem?
The heros of the Alamo are puking in their graves.
When they put something like this on our kids, it is the beginning of the destruction of our country. Hopefully, the kids and their parents will stand up against this.
But since there seems to be such a strong feeling of pride for another country among a certain demographic in that neck of the woods I'd be inclined to cut the kids from Alamo Heights a break.
I sincerely hope a group of USA USA USA parents and patriot citizens cry out against these traitors.
Look what happened in Texas. Howie Carr ping. Yikes.
WHAT? Was the other team from another country? Why is chanting USA racist? I don’t get it. Did the other team have a lot of illegal immigrants? Is this political correctness gone wild? ???
That is a pretty clear cut example of gov't drones violating students first amendment rights. If students are allowed to cheer at the basketball game - then they can't be stopped from chanting USA.
I would pull my kid off the team before he would apologize and I would ask for the firing of the person that requested that they apologize.
A perfect example of the morality or Altruism. I am so tired of people apologizing for our success and greatness. If we should not be proud of our country then no one should.
Stuff P.C.!....Ridiculous!
Being indoctrinated at the earlist age possible. We are seeing the end of our society. Welcome to USSA!

>>I’m embarassed for you Ksat, and “disturbed”(can I use your word?) that you would produce such a horribly biased report as the Heights vs Edison basketball game incident.
They didn’t cover any of the insulting being done by Edison, there were posters, people saying Alamo Whites, etc. Then they go and report about “USA!” Which would have to be thought about in a very weird way to become insulting.
>> If Edison was also making racially insensitive comments, then yes, it should be reported, and shame on KSAT for not doing so. However, two wrongs don’t make a right. Shouting “USA” is of course not insulting, but consider the context. Why else would a team (or more specifically, its fans) chant that when playing a team from the same country? I know only a handful of students can ruin the reputation of a school, but those students deserve to be punished.
>>I sent this to your reporter who reported about Alamo Heights being “racist”
Hello,
I am a current student at Alamo Heights, and I would like to discuss the story on how Alamo Heights chanting “USA” is racist. If you haven’t already checked your video comments on the KSAT12 page, most comments, if not mainly, said that this is not racist at all. Yes, our school consists of mainly of whites, but that does not make us racist. What is wrong with being proud of our country? We have shouted it out at other games against WHITE teams and at pep rallies, and it is in not being racist towards anyone. I am white and my best friend happens to be a Hispanic. We are all Americans are we not? We should not be calling the whole community of Alamo Heights racist, when it was only three students starting the chant, and one of them being Hispanic. You also forgot to explain in your news story that Edison chanted Alamo Whites. It seems odd that you only told half of the story of what actually happened. Edison also made a rude remark about one of our paralyzed students, Eddie Moreno, calling him “retarded.” We are not the only ones guilty in the matter of racism. I think you need to air another story showing the other half of the story. It would be much appreciated by the Alamo Heights community and school system.
Sincerely,
Sage Novosad-Talley
