How would the US military respond if Iran attacked US interests in retaliation for, say, an Israeli strike on its nuclear facilities? What would a US counterattack look like?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington Monday to meet with President Obama which comes in the midst of increasingly vocal warnings from Pentagon officials urging caution on any military action in the region has brought these questions into sharp focus this week.
These questions, too, were at the heart of one of the largest US military war-game exercises in a decade, meant to mirror the conditions that US troops would face if Iran were to, say, shut down shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The war game, dubbed Bold Alligator, included some 16,000 US Navy seamen and Marines, as well as a a contingent of US allies from Europe and Australia, and took place near Norfolk, Va., last month.
Yet Iran conducts its own war-game exercises, too, designed to practice how best to make US military operations in the region difficult, defense analysts note.
The Pentagons exercise, for its part, was designed to explore what might happen when US troops face threats in a populated, built-up area like the Persian Gulf, according to senior US military officials.
The exercises were certainly informed by recent history, says Adm. John Harvey, head of the US Navys Fleet Forces Command.

Arrest their Commander In Chief?
Obama would order a neutral sounding tactic such as a complete no-fly zone that would hamper Israel’s efforts at self-defense. And win another Nobel for it.
Transgressions by Iran would be ignored. Israel would eventually have to break the no-fly zone, too. Obama would then order the shoot-down of Israeli planes.
The short term pieces after that are fuzzy, but the end game is WWIII.
And no, Israel no longer has any choice but to go down this road...
If it were after Obama is gone, I am 100% certain that we would aid Israel no matter what it took. If it’s before Obama is gone, I figure Iran would be defended no matter what. That is what I take from the ideology of Obama. Bend over, bow down, concede, and comfort our enemies, and never do 1 single thing in the interest of America. This man is NOT one of us.
On orders from their Commander In Chief: THEY WOULD DO NOTHING!
When you add more players to the board it makes things a little complicated.
We will supply the Israelis with everything they need in terms of logistics and intelligence. We will not be involved militarily. We have no mutual defense pact with Israel.
What would the US do? That depends on whether or not there’s a Kenyan Jew-hater in the White House at the time.

With Obama in the White House?
They’d watch it on CSPAN between games of ping pong.
We would have to wait until mac daddy finished more important tasks:
Planning his next, 156th, vacation
Planning his next party
Playing all his race cards
Admiring himself in the mirror
Patting himself on the back
Making another useless speech that is nothing but lies
Bowing before some mideast rag head
And then comes the moment when he decides to do NOTHING.
Re #3:
I fear you may be correct. Obama IS MUSLIM. He will not help Isreal but will try to shield Iran.
I am aware of most of those agreements, but we do not have a mutual defense agreement whereby an attack against Israel is considered an attack against the United States and vice versa. There is no such thing in our relationship similar to Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, i.e, an attack against one is an attack against all. Article 5 was implemented for the first time after 9/11, which is why NATO is in Afghanistan.
Here is the tactical problem:
Iran is well aware of Israel’s (rightful) intentions and America’s weapons, and have up-armored every critical process in their nuclear weapons program.
Tunneling is something that Iran has always done better than any country in the world, throughout history, it’s an engineering fact.
Israel’s goal is to attack, not to necessarily succeed. A show of strength at a minimum.
America has a different challenge, we cannot participate in an attack that doesn’t win. If our bunker-busters don’t work, we lose the credibility of that weapon system.
The world will then know that anyone, N Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Myanmar, Pakistan, etc can hide evil underground.
Our military planners doubt the bunker-busters will work.
De-mystifying ground penetration bombs ends their diplomatic and strategic use.
OK, everyone will know how deep to dig.
And...Iran will learn from any failed attack that it cannot be stopped by Israel or America. They will bray like a pack of mules at the world...and be believed.
I believe that Iran wants to be attacked.

Our unceasing since Poppy Bush being in Israel's business as far as them trying to deal with their own terrorist threats has done Israel great harm and U.S. no good. Our Schmucks in DC need to learn a valuable history lesson. The ONE who watches over Israel never slumbers and I don't mean Obama. We do her harm at the very risk of our acquired blessing as a nation.
