The Geneva Auto Show announced Monday that the Volt, which is sold in Europe as the Opel Ampera, was named its 2012 Car of the Year ahead of its annual car show that opens this week.

Oy.

You can watch the latest ad for the Obama Volt HERE.

It was posted for a while on YouTube but was pulled after a copyright complaint from Chevrolet.

Don’t worry. President of the EU is more than likely on his agenda as soon as he unveils a birth certificate showing he was born there.

Or, conversely, he can run for U.N. General Secretary and really stick it to the U.S. from a global perspective.

Watch, this post will be prophetic.

Anyone know how much, on the average, it costs in electricity to run this thing? 36mpg at $4/gal. plus who knows how many $ in juice. Not to mention a 40K selling price.

The battery in the Chevy Volt contains the energy equivelent of 1 gallon of gasoline. Why would anyone buy a car with a 1 gallon gas tank?

Not to mention generating the electricity for this “green” car from nasty, evil coal-burned power plants.

The Dolt is symbolic of the nobama administration: losing, unwanted, destructive ideas.

My rough guestimate on cost:

Its a 16 kwh battery...but recharges are reported to take 12 kwh. Using the national average (12 cents), its around $1.50.

It may be more in winter and summer, as the extension cord powers climate control systems for the batteries.

So, with $4 gas, it saves around $2.50 a day. Ignoring higher insurance costs and property taxes associated with a double value car, and just looking at the $20k markup, it will pay for itself in 20 years.

Volt owners (and supporters) hate it when you look at $$ gas savings...saying its a luxury car, just like a vette, you buy it for the experience, blah blah. Last night I saw a brand new Volt commercial...and the entire thrust of the commercial was $$ savings on fuel.

Nevermind the tons of coal burned to generate said electricity. The greenies must think electricity just pours out of the house outlets for free...it's MAGIC!

I’ve calculated that it takes 9 lb of coal to charge a Volt, and do what 7 lb of gasoline will do.

“Volt” vw. “Ampere.”

Does that mean the US has potential and Europe is moving? They should have named it the “Zero Ampera” in honor of its main patron. Kind of like the Chevy “Nova” in Latin America.

***Chevy Volt, the electric car was named European Car of the Year. ***

Years ago I read that such honors, and the front page photos to magazines could be bought with a little ca$h to the proper publishers.
