25 years ago took a fishing/sightseeing tour on a fast Whaler only 500 yards off the base. They were firing SUBROCS right over our heads, with recovery vessels running around us; had my camera taking pics, but the Navy didn`t bother us. In those days I guess the only security threat there were drunken tour skippers.

My husband was on a TWR out of Pearl Sub base. They used to fish on their trips between the islands or when they just sat waiting. My husband had his nose broken by a 60lb Mahi Mahi. The guys got it up to the open end of the boat (where the torpedoes were put) and my husband grabbed it in a bear hug, it reared back and slapped him in the face breaking his nose.
In Fallon Nevada he had a scorpion sting him in the stomach when he was spotting targets in the deserts.
