Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims. It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:
For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke. However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand. It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not. Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.
That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives. If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them. Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.
Update: Along those same lines, does Donna Brazile also now oppose the government mandate to force employers and insurers to have a role in the decision to use contraception? She tweeted this message not too long ago (via Keder):
Agree! The government should have no role in contraception, and shouldn’t force employers or insurers to have a role in it, either. Keep it between the woman, her sexual partner, and her doctor. Well said.
Oh, wait, Brazile meant this in support of the mandate? She seems just as badly misinformed on the issue as her media colleagues … or as deliberately obtuse.

Let’s see why he did it...
Rushs bean counters must have advised him that the withdrawal of many big sponsors might produce a rush (no pun intended ) for the exists and further advised him to issue this apology before the cowardly sponsor herd thins to zero and cause his show to have no sponsors at all.
In which case, if there are no sponsors at all, how are you going to broadcast?
Just guessing..
You said exactly what alot of people are thinking.
One thing for sure, this is the strongest proof that when taking flak, you’re over the target, and Rush got the flak! LOL
I’m just wondering what kind of person gets up in front of a committee and talks about this kind of stuff with such outrageous numbers to boot!
Tell me. about. it. And considering this woman is a complete fraud, NOT a student, NOT 23 years old but a 30 years old radical leftist baffles me even more why he is sinking this low. WTF is going on here anyway? Did we suddenly move into a parallel universe where things are slightly askew? Ann Coulter endorsing Romney? Ted Nugent “The NUGE” endorsing Romney? WHAT? What’s next, Mark Levin demanding his listeners vote for Nancy Pelosi?
I dont patronize any of these businesses who quit Rush’s show anyway. LET THEM GO. BYE BYE. Go to MS NBC where you belong.
RE: Power on loan from Sleep Number and Quicken.
What conservatives should do is CALL RUSH’s show this coming Monday BY HUGE NUMBERS AND SHOW HIM THEIR SUPPORT.
Most importantly, CALL TO TELL HIM WHY HE ISN’T WRONG.
WE OUGHT TO LET THESE COWARDS KNOW HOW MOST OF HIS 20 Million listeners feel.
“Reproductive health choices” means the barbaric killing of nascent, human life.
Rot in Hell all ye advocates and practitioners of killing the young.
Money talks, and his sponsors were jumping ship as if it was the Titanic. He had to stop the bleeding. I don’t like it either because it empowers the other side even more now.
Excellent quotes.
What? .. .Calm down!
RE: The instant that I read that Rush ( who I’ve admired since ‘84) that he called some woman (who I believe is a compunction-less liar) a “slut”, I knew it was an error.
________________________
Please Explain to us why observing a behavior that fits the definition of a word is in error.
This woman demands that we pay for her sexual activities (where she cannot even exercise self control that it would cost her more than $3,000 a year in birth control), and someone who points this out should now apologize?
Do we intend to live in a topsy turvy world?
If you want to,be my guest. As for me, I intend to call on Monday (if I can get through) to show Rush my support and most of all, to send Ms. Fluke a message -— If you advertise your personal promiscuity to the world, you ought to accept it when people use the word that describes your lifestyle.
I have no idea whether or not that pig Sandra Fluke is a slut, and neither does Rush.
Fact is, she sure does sound like a slut.
I need other people to fork over $3,000 per year for my contraception.
Her father must be very proud.
RE: Her father must be very proud.
That’s what Obama said to her ( the only difference is he used the word — Parents ).
I feel like a Bush-supporter today. I had his back for two terms over the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, then bags us on illegal immigration and TARP.
A lot of us had Rush’s back over this, then he comes out with lame-assed apology over something he was right on.
RE: A lot of us had Rushs back over this, then he comes out with lame-assed apology over something he was right on.
How do you propose to deal with the mass exodus of scared sponsors... which threatens to eventually close down his show?
Very well said. Rush shot himself in the foot, but shot his core listening audiance in the head. The life boat was leaking water, and Rush threw us overboard, I wonder what Mark Levin has to say about this? Defending Rush, and then getting shafted, too. Limbaugh dosen't need me anymore.
“She wants me to pay for her recreational sex so, maybe shes not a slut but shes still a whore.”
I’m not so sure. I still have trouble believing that Fluke has ever had sex with a man (except maybe once, as an experiment or something), or ever intends to. If I’m right, then she has no need of the contraception she seeks to force G-Town to pay for.
So I don’t know what that would make her, other than a Socialist...
I hope you explained to your EX that this is about religious freedom!!!
It is about our Constitution NOT birth control!!!
How about getting some different sponsors? For the last 20 years, the ratings battle in talk radio has been for the distant 2nd to Rush. This was threatening to kill his show? Not bloody likely. DemonRats have been trying to shut him down for 20 years via abuse of the legal system, “equality” bills in Congress, “hate-speech” legislation, you name it.
