Ever notice every “green” position is coincidentally exactly opposite what is in America’s strategic national interest?

For real.

Why don’t communists in communist nations, oppose their own nation’s military interests?

It’s for some reason only American communists, who are opposed to America’s own military.

Why is that?

Hmm?

I suggest that about 1000 Green Activists force their way on to these navy ships as they are being towed out to deep waters. They chant slogans about not polluting the ocean.

And then the target practice can start.

I'm getting to think that the only reason we have a military any more is only to kill and destroy.

Does anyone else get that same sinking feeling?

They should have sunk it in closer, as an artificial reef for fishing and diving.

About a year ago I watched a documentary about the sinking of old Navy vessels and it went into great detail about how all toxic materials and residue were removed cleaned.

In addition, there were some "enviromentalists" raving about the wonderful habitat the old ships make for sea life, as well as providing etertainment for recreational scuba diving.

If we're going to knee jerk to the complaints of every little pod of environuts in America, we'll never get anything done.

Trouble is, the media is packed with these same enviro whackoes and they carry the torch for the left.

And finally, IF all the hundreds and hundreds of ships, planes and submarines that went down in the oceans in the past world wars - fully loaded with fuel, oil, and munitions - hasn't ended life as we know it, I sure wouldn't worry about an empty shell of a boat being sunk. Even the old "Arizona" - sunk at Pearl Harbor - is still to this day, seeping oil.

Liberals are all members of the "What can we bitch about today?" club.

Great fish habitat!

Most of the PCBs can be removed without that much difficulty prior to sinking.

USS AMERICA, CV-66

I was an the America during the Gulf War.

The left would prefer our ships being sunk by Iran, China, Russia, etc.

Sinking all the ships of all the navies that ever sailed won’t raise the level of the oceans one little inch, but now we will poisen the oceans with a few US Navy ships...Right.

This is a load of crap. MILLIONS and millions of dollars are spent removing as much of the toxics as is possible before these ships are sunk. I would reckon that the scrap value of the ship is easily spent on cleaning them up before they are sunk. Don’t forget that the “scrap value” is the NET after they are 1: cleaned up “sort of” 2: towed to some non-Bangladesh place where they can be dismantled and 3: the cost of dismantling labor. You can’t just drive or tow the ship into a big melting pot and jump off before it tips in!

Abandon the EPA building in DC and call in an alpha strike. That way no pollutants are left in the ocean, part of DC gets cleaned up and the military gets its practice in. Oh yeah, those officeless EPA federal workers can clean up the mess. Should take them quite a while and keep them off the unemployment lines.

Perspective - liberals just don't got it.

Let them spend a few years crossing oceans, and maybe they would get a clue about their own insignificance.

This happened in 2005. I wonder if concerns are being raised now, because Obama would rather give obsolete carriers to the Chinese government. Just one of those things that make you wonder...

My old ship (USS Conolly) was sunk this way. I watched the video on youtube, and it was kind of sad seeing her sink. It also makes me feel old, since I was a part of the Commissioning crew.
I have to agree with the greenies on this one. We shouldn’t sink these old ships. They should be taken apart and all of the pieces dumped on the front lawn of one of these ecologists. By having this old junk placed on their lawn, they can show the world how green they are. :)

They should just tow them and dump them on the cross-Bronx expressway. There wouldn’t be much left after a week.

Why the hell don’t they scrap those ships? They’re worth good money. They could manufacture a soluble foam target for a lot less.

This is how it begins. First the Navy is banned from sinking old ships, then it is banned from sinking any ships. Then they ask why is there a Navy anyway if they can’t sink ships?
