Jimmy Carter and Barak Obama seem to be faithful to their marriage vows; do they exhibit “sacred honor”, or did the expression in the 18th century perhaps mean something different than we both might presume?

Quote: “The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.” George Washington, First Inaugural Address, April 30, 1789.

I'm educated as an art historian, so I am not considered a ‘pure’ historian but I've had a deeply rooted interest in the Revolutionary period since a small child, and particularly in the lives of the people who made our nation possible.

A very great deal was made of a man's honor, but in their private lives sexual peccadilloes were tolerated. It was an “all’s fair in love and war” attitude, that didn't extend to the other endeavors in their lives.

What does this mean, “the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people”? Does he refer to liberty and the republican model of government, and then couches it in terms such as “sacred”?

I suspect in 18th century terms, it refers to ones public conduct in matters of business and government. The responsibility in handling other people's money was seen as so great, honor had to be unassailable for one to be trusted.

Alexander Hamilton comes to mind, the adulterer who was a Founding Father, soldier, economist, political philosopher, one of America's first constitutional lawyers and the first United States Secretary of the Treasury. And he died in a duel defending his honor.

So, no; I do not believe Newt is in error when he refers to their, the Founding Father's, sacred honor.

Evidently you need a lot of hand holding and assistance, maybe someone can explain to you how to use google to search a quote on your own, especially one so widely known and posted for the last five years.

Gingrich cheated on , not one but two wives. Wife three now has to live with him. I don’t. He’s a pig but you’re free to wax philosophical as much as you like. We’ve both wasted far more bandwidth than he’s worth.

His first wife was a teacher who seduced him when he was a teen-ager and his second wife was a backstabber who threatened to derail his political career in the press even while they were married if he tried to run for president, just because she didn’t want him to. Unquestionably Newt finally found a wonderful woman in his third wife who supports him and I’m happy for him.

The idea that people can judge what went on and who was right or wrong in someone’s failed relationship decades ago through bits and pieces of media stories is just utterly ridiculous. Do you even have an idea what goes on in the marriage of your closest friend? I find your judgment of this man sickening and suggest you study the teachings of Jesus Christ for some valuable lessons such as “let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

If you had bet your entire life savings on a golf game and you got to pick who would play for your side, would you pick the person with a history of making the most moral decisions, like Mr. Rogers, or would you pick Tiger Woods?

The fact is our lives and our freedom DO depend on the next president turning this country around and rolling back Obama’s agenda. It is too important to use ANY criteria in this selection process other than who is the most conservative candidate who can win.

One of four worthless assclowns is going to be the next president. Mr Rogers is looking pretty good.

So poor little Newt is just a victim here. He was just taken advantage of by mean, wicked women, right? He had bonding in any of this, right? Sorry, I don’t want a PW’d wimp for president, we’ve already got one.

First you said; "Governor Mitt Romney: 'These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense,' Romney said. 'They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.'"

I responded; Your source please...

And then you said; "Evidently you need a lot of hand holding and assistance, maybe someone can explain to you how to use google to search a quote on your own, especially one so widely known and posted for the last five years.

Well, you ignorant moron. One should know that when one posts a quote (with quotation marks), one should provide the source at the time of the post, or when one is requested by a reader if the source is not initially provided.

So, please, get your ignorant head out of your egotistical ARSE, show some responsibility for your obvious inactions and quit taking snide shots at someone whose simply exampling your arrogance for someone asking a legitimate request for 'source' information.

We all ask for sources for obscure things, but not for old beaten, thread bare, everyday quotes that have been posted a thousand times here, and one that you could just find yourself in 15 seconds, since it is on every list of Romney’s positions.

Look I held your hand and walked you through this, but I won’t stroke your head and comfort you over it.
