A high school valedictorian with big dreams says her future could be ruined by an immigration nightmare.
And with all her awards, metals and accolades Daniela Pelaez is well on her way.
"I love school. I love education. I'm the valedictorian of my high school," said Pelaez.
Daniela is a senior at North Miami Senior High School where she's in the international baccalaureate program and has a 6.7 grade point average.
"I applied to Yale. I applied to Dartmouth, Duke University, Trinity and Wesley," she said.
But just days before she'll find out if she's been accepted to any of those colleges she may be forced to leave the country.
On March 28th, Daniela and her sister are scheduled be deported back to Columbia.
"I've been here since I was 4, I'm American," she said.
Daniela and her siblings came to America with her parents back in 1991.
Her parents divorced and in 2006 when her mother had to go back to Columbia for medical reasons she was denied access back into the country.
Daniela now lives with her father---who's a resident---but on Monday a judge deciding she and her sister can no longer live here.
More than 3,000 people already signing an online petition to stop Pelaez from being deported.
Daniela's attorney is appealing the court's decision.
Her classmates at North Miami senior High School are rallying in support and plan to walk out of class Friday morning in protest.

Talk about grade inflation. In my day, the highest was a 4.0.
Local tv stations in Miami are giving free publicity to the kids at this girl’s high school who are threatening to walk out of class today to “protest” the decision to send this girl back.

I have some sympathy for the girl..but the bottom line is, she is here illegally...she has broken the law. Ignorance of the law is no excuse...her parents knew they were breaking the law even if she didn’t. She needs to accept the consequences of her actions...and the actions of her parents unfortunately...breathing American air does not make her American. Naturalization papers do. My mother had to go through all the classes for her to be naturalized..no reason why this little girl can’t do the same thing...and I am sure Columbia has some nice colleges where she can shine.
Yeah, deport the successful ones and keep the pedo-felons around.
What’s up is down, what’s down is up.
The world is insane.
You are completely correct. Very astute.
These are the real “heart-breaker” cases. This girl is an American through and through... Except, she’s not.
What I don’t get is that my parents and I have subsidized these public schools for our entire lives through taxes we have paid. Yet, the spawn of illegal aliens believe that they can show up, enroll and suck money out of the schools by taking a seat, demanding being taught in their ‘home’ language and we are supposed to accept them as legally there.
Let those kids walk out. And lock the doors after them. Any teachers that are sympathetic, there are plenty out of work who would appreciate a shot at their jobs.
“Her parents divorced and in 2006 when her mother had to go back to Columbia for medical reasons she was denied access back into the country. “
This line kinda jumped out at me..
Go back to Columbia for ‘medical reasons’?
What possible medical reason would send her back to Columbia’s socialist medical system?
You mean she couldn’t be treated here?
Some thing’s not quite right here.
But out of all the millions of potential deportees why would a young and apparently extremely intelligent and gifted Colombiana be selected for the boot? The Colombians I know (legally here) are universally very conservative and more pro-American than most Americans. Was this young lady targeted not only because she earned notice from her exceptional academics but because she and/or her family have the "wrong" politics? There are a few million others here uninvited I'd love to escort to the border before someone like this.
I could look the other way on illegals that are like this woman. ICE will deport this girl while driving past a Home Depot with 30 illegals, many with criminal records, in the parking lot.
What kinds of metals does she have? Gold? Silver? Iron? Inquiring minds want to know.
Yeah, deport the successful ones and keep the pedo-felons around.
I disagree. A criminal is a criminal successful or not. She needs to get to Colombia and get in line if she wants to come back. However, with Newt as President, she would get to stay because he won’t get rid of people here a long time. Perhaps she needs to vote for Newt. Yep. Illegal aliens vote too unfortunately.
Deport her already. Despite what they think, not every person is entitled to be in the U.S. If she’s smart, she’s needed in her home country and should make a contribution there.
I love breaking the law.
I love being an illegal alien.
I love Other People's Money.
I love getting things I'm not legally entitled to.
Laws and rules shouldn't apply to me - I'm special.

Columbia is part of the Americas, go be an American there.
Deport her, illegal is illegal. We need to get back to the law. If we do not do this then it just encourages the illegal to continue to break the law and we will then make more exceptions.
