An Afghan government website has reported that NATO officials have promised to bring the American soldiers responsible for burning the Koran to justice in an open trial.
The website of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Government Media and Information Center (an official government site) states: "NATO officials promised to meet Afghan nations [sic] demand of bringing to justice, through an open trial, those responsible for the incident and it was agreed that the perpetrators of the crime be brought to justice as soon as possible."
If this is true, and we do not know yet if it is, handing over US servicemembers to a sharia court in Afghanistan could be one of the most unconscionable acts ever conducted by our government.
Obama reportedly sent a three-page letter to Afghan president Hamid Karzai, but the White House won't fully disclose the letter. A small portion of Obama's letter - suspiciously (and perhaps deliberately) ambiguous - is floating around stating "We will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible."
What does the president mean, holding the soldiers accountable to military law? They didn't do anything wrong. If they did, show us what code they violated. Or does he mean sharia law? Desecrating the Koran, especially by non-Muslims could result in the death penalty. But American soldiers are held only to US law, not Islamic law. Besides, depending on what jurist you talk to, burning of Korans is entirely permissible if the books are damaged - which the Korans in question were, at the hands of Muslims.
Of course, the White House and Pentagon are not answering questions. But this is nothing new for the president who proclaims...

B.O. is stupid, but not this stupid.
B.O. is stupid, but not this stupid.
I would hope they aren’t stupid enough to hand our soldiers over to anybody.
Personally, I don’t think there should even be any kind of military court, either.
There have been at least 4 of our people murdered over this. That is 4 too many.
(I think I could protest a lot easier than I could riot :))
Well if he does I am sure no one will hear about it.
Quite honestly that would be the end.
No way that the American people or the American Military would stand that. At the very best for Obama he would be impeached and have to go in hiding outside of America..............
The US Govt is the most sharia-compliant organization in the world. It does more to promote deference to Islam and compliance with Muslim sensibilities than Osama Bin Laden ever hoped to achieve.
He should offer himself in place of the accused.
I sense this would be a go signal call to action for a lot of patriots if this were ever to come to pass.
I predict that the Communist-In-Chief WILL state that he will turn over our military members for Afghan prosecution, to cause chaos, as he’s done so many times in the past. “Never let a crisis go to waste.” Will he go thru with it? I think that it’s doubtful, but it’s very possible.
Same here. This is one of those cases where it's best to just keep quiet.
Yes he will but after the election if he wins or loses.
The CIC should be punished to the fullest extent of Sharia law.
I am willing to hand over Obama.
Can someone please tell me the circumstance of how the Korans were burned. I have not seen any article that explains it. Did someone do it in protest, did they use them for firewood because they were cold? What the heck happened to cause all this?
Thanks.
Oh Lord, how fortunate I am that I served under an American president — Eisenhower.
It doesn’t matter how the korans were burned when no one gives a sh*t when Christians are innocently slaughtered.
I appreciate you want to debate. I might join you. Right now I’m just trying to find out what happened. It was a literal question. I see someone posted a link so I’ll go read that now. Thanks.
