Wounded British journalist smuggled safely out of besieged Syrian city of Homs

A wounded British photographer who had been trapped in the besieged Syrian city of Homs was spirited safely into Lebanon on Tuesday in a risky journey that killed 13 rebels who helped him escape the relentless shelling and gunfire.

Conroy crossed the border into neighboring Lebanon after leaving Homs on Sunday evening, according to the global activist group Avaaz, which said it organized the evacuation with local activists.

The group said 35 Syrians volunteered to help get the journalists out and 13 were killed in the operation.

FYI -

Travelers can buy insurance that will get you out of hot situations like this. The insurer will send in a private commando unit to get you out of the country. I don’t know if that was the case in this incident, but I suspect that the news organization does carry insurance for this purpose.

The premium payment annually for an individual is about $400 per year. You can buy this coverage for individual trips or to cover traveling for a year.

When the Marines can’t get you out of a bad situation, call an insurance company.

Lots of business is done in countries where the bullets are flying. The businessmen won’t be selling tennis shoes and ice cube makers but other items appropriate to the situation.

You can bet your favorite doughnuts that a number of good ol’ boys, from America, France and England, were selling munitions and moving American dollars to the militias that drove Kadhaffi and his mercenaries out of Libya.

It’s my reading that the mullahs are quite pissed that they were prevented from taking power in Libya after Kadhaffi got his brains blown out. The operation has Israel written all over it.
