White House hopeful Mitt Romney styled himself as a Michigan-bred "car guy" whose wife drives "a couple of Cadillacs" as he tried to woo Motor City voters ahead of a key primary.
Giving what was billed as a major economic policy speech days before state Republicans choose their presidential nominee, Romney presented a plan to lower taxes and cut spending -- and insisted that he was the only candidate capable of beating Democrat Barack Obama in the November 6 presidential election.
But the speech may be remembered more for its setting and Romney's off-hand remarks rather than its substance.
Before 1,200 guests of the Detroit Economic Club, Romney took to the podium on the 30 yard line of Ford Field stadium -- home of the NFL's Detroit Lions -- surrounded by 65,000 empty seats.

dont worry...there'll be plenty of opportunities...
trust me...lol
Not the smartest comment to make at F.R. sick1.
Why would that be the case? I’ll stick with the truth in advertising view of the “Free” in FR and freely express my opinion. What’s the downside? A zot? Or the intellectual vacuum that is posters like jimbo123? I suspect most 2nd graders face more real consequence for their actions on the playground than what I’d get for expressing my thoughts here.
Oh my Jimbo - your intellect, your values - just astounding. Your contribution to the collective intelligence here is significant, albeit negative.
So, no thank you. This Romneybot (or whatever simple name you substitute for any type of thought and clarity) will stay right here on FR with fingers on the keyboard, a smile on my face, and a boot up the backside of the thoughtless and feeble minded. There are some serious arguments to be made against Romney and I understand them. For me, on balance, I’m still supporting him. You, however, seem ill prepared to make any argument of any kind against Romney or for any candidate.
[HINT: if all of the words above confuse you, just substitute “Begone Tardbot”. Just trying to be helpful.]
The Romneybot “sick1” is no longer sick, he be daid now.
That’s nice. Even a high school in an upscale suburb would have been a better venue for this than a football stadium, which had to use its lights, staff and others to put on this event. Very expensive cost to the campaign. Maybe there was a downtown hotel that could accommodate 300 participants. Just a waste of cash, not to mention the visuals just diminish the event’s importance.
My goodness, he/she got the ZOT!
That kinda thing happens when someone openly pushes a liberal on a privately owned, conservative web site. It's not exactly a secret that J.R. will not tolerate Romney pushing liberals here.
Romney’s Reptiles got Obama elected in 2008. Never forgive; never forget.
That's quite an accomplishment, sticking your foot up your own arse.
Later, Mr. 311 posts since 2000.
“Car Guy” my ass ... if he truly loved cars he would have a stable of great cars ... not a politically motivated selection chosen to appease the big 3. He probably can’t tell you anything technical about any of them.

Sorry, there will be no campaign for Romney on this conservative forum.
Romney is not a conservative, never was, never will be.
He flip flops and lies on so many things that one can nver trust anything he says.
Since you admit to being a Romenybot, that means you are for the same things Romney is, as in Homosexual Marriage, Gun Bans, Perpetual bailouts of failed industry and government ownership of GM, taxpayer funded government run healthcare, and higher taxes.
None of the above are conservative ideals, but Romney and his record show that he is for every single item mentioned.
Say hello to NeoClownTard central for me.
Yeah, rates right up there with the poster who said “Ban me to a-hole”.
Still laughing over that one.
That’s lovely, TOL. :)
Oh my...
Romney is supposed to have a well-oiled campaign team of savvy veterans?
No way. They are either incompetent or deliberately sabotaging him.
