Gingrich Says Obama’s Algae Policy Is ‘Weird’ and Could Take 40 Years

FEDERAL WAY, Wash.— Newt Gingrich has been hitting Obama’s energy speech since the president delivered it Thursday, calling the speech funny enough to be on SNL and ”something worthy of Leno or Letterman.”

Gingrich’s biggest talking point about Obama’s speech attacks the president for his embrace of investments in biofuels such as those made from algae.

He is referring to a point in Obama’s speech when the president said, “We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance known as algae.”

“Believe it or not, we could replace up to 17% of the oil we import for transportation with this fuel that we can grow right here in America,” Obama said.

On Thursday night, Gingrich mocked the president’s speech in front of an Idaho crowd, by suggesting that he should take a bottle of algae with him and “go around and we can have the Obama solution.”

“And maybe what we ought to do at Newt.org is we ought to get t-shirts that say ‘You choose.’ Gingrich went on to suggest the slogans, ‘You have Newt: Drill here, Drill Now, Pay Less. You have Obama: Have Algae, Pay More, Be Weird.”

Gingrich himself has taken a lot of flack on the campaign trail this year for presenting ideas that the other candidates have called “grandiose” and “zany.”

Does this mean that Obama’s new nickname is “Weird Algae”?
************************
Actually, Newt referred to him on the campaign trail as “President Algae”.

“made from a plant-like substance known as algae.”

This is why Obama is going to win...he understands his base. He talks to them on their level. He knows the idiots who vote for him aren’t going to know what algae is and explains it to them.

Would you people like a good laugh? The reason why the algae can’t ever produce enough fuel to be industrially feasible is (drumroll please...) that there’s no way to give it enough CO2. Yes, there’s not way to produce enough CO2 to allow algae to replace fuel drilling. Is that funny or what.

“a plant-like substance known as algae.”...He acts like its a new invention. Why doesn’t he just go out and say it - the one percent will be slaughtered, and their body fat will Fuel The Future.

They tell us that drilling for oil is not a workable plan. However, algae is definitely a serious option!! The people who believe this stuff... I don’t know what they have for brains.

“And, there are enough Obama bots to believe that BS. “

It’s really being done in experimental settings. Some scale ups have been tested with I believe some success. If this approach turns out feasible, it would be using solar energy to produce synfuel. The problem caused by solar’s flakiness is greatly mitigated by the storage of the result as a synfuel. Effectively, the synfuel acts as a battery for the solar power generated and allows that solar energy to be used more efficiently than, say, solar panels.

This may turn out to be a pig in a poke. Or it may turn out to be a very interesting and maybe economic approach to using solar for actual reliable, dense power sources.

The crowd must have been in the thousands. We had at least 300 in the banquet hall I was in with two other overflow halls. When Newt talked, he had the crowd so captivated with his command of the information, they forgot to clap. When they did cheer, the place almost fell down. He was awesome.

Go Newt!

Same as Solyndra, all over again...

Maybe Solyndra can be saved by making...get this...”Solyndra Green” from dead people and animals.

Yep! We could eat our way to health and happiness and the “first bitch” would be happy that we ate our peas.

Obama, “hey I have an idea! If we put a chunk of coal under pressure for a thousand years we will have a diamond”. This is what the DNC and thier followers have given us.

"Hint: The LIE in the woodpile is when Bammy tells us we can grow enough algae to fuel America. We have not got that much phosphate and still have enough to grow food."

What he said.

I'm not sure about the phosphate part but this has been tried on a grand scale with corn that is available now in large quantities and without all the infrastructure required to grow & harvest algae. How is that working? Algae will be a much poorer source of energy and way more expensive.
