True to a primary season already marked by sudden and surprising ups and downs, Mitt Romney has jumped back into the lead in Michigan’s Republican Primary race. The vote’s on Tuesday.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Michigan shows Romney with 40% of the vote and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum with 34%. The poll was conducted on Thursday night, following the last scheduled debate among the GOP candidates. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

I’m just glad the governor doesn’t expect us to be team players in November because I don’t think I’m going to feel like taking one for the team if he’s the nominee.

” I don’t know if it was magnanimus or shrewd political strategery by Newt,..... “

THAT is a very good question.

I don’t want to be caught getting cranky again, but I *think*, it was a money crunch, conditioned by that faucet of Adelson’s, being turned on and then at once turned off for whole weeks, leaving hugh gaps in Newt’s financial reach for states beyond the South.

Santorum naturally fed his money bump into the states where it “appeared” after 3 ballot wins that Republicans liked him there, and by several points.....for awhile. Was he lured into Michigan? I think so.

Was Rick displaced by the Arizona debate? Yep.

Newt debated Rick out of Michigan, but Rick missed it, of course.

No surprise at all; the early Santorum leads were illusory. People of MI nearly always do as expected.

No, my interest has waned since Newt tanked. I can’t get excited about anyone else...if Newt makes a comeback, I will get involved again. Otherwise, it’s not worth the effort. People are dolts.

"but I *think*, it was a money crunch"

I think you're correct and Newt was out of gas when the real campaigning was underway in MI. Plus, he has to MAKE SURE he wins GA and TN.

Please be smarter than this, Michigan voters.

As the Michigan primary approached in May, 1980, Ronald Reagan seemed to have the Republican presidential nomination all but locked up. He had won several key primaries, many by landslides, and it appeared that his narrow win in Bush's home state of Texas would have just about iced it. However, Bush trounced Reagan in Michigan, which might very well have been the key factor that got him the nod as Reagan's running mate--and ushered in the Bush dynasty. Here's hoping that Michiganders will act smarter.

Just got my fifth robo call from the Romney campaign today. TV is filled with his attack ads. Santorum is shown with a stupid smile on his face as the narrator “explains” about Rick’s big government background.

Five Romney calls in one day matches my previous record from Tuesday. Gotta believe there will be at least two or three more before bedtime.

If Santorum wins in Michigan, Romney will have truly failed on a vast scale. He must be spending a fortune here.

It’ll be tight but I think Santorum will pull it off in the end despite the media being in the tank for Romney.

And you sir are clearly devoid of any knowledge in this matter.

And, as is TYPICAL and CONSISTENT with many Santorum supporters you greet all bad news by calling the messenger names.

Seems that's all you're got.

And that is the sign of a weak mind.

Really?

I guess you agree with the libtards that discussing social values has no place in presidential politics.

LOL. You crack me up, always negative about Newt Gingrich.

Santorum is the one bragging that he will carry the rust belt and carry the blue collar voters.

FWIW, I hope he beats the snot out of Romney in Michigan.

It clearly has a place. It's been happening for about two weeks.

I just don't know if it's helped the candidate much.

I agree with you on your debate grading, so far as it goes, but it is not Newt’s *way* with words entirely at all, as it must be with Rick, Romney and Ron in these debates, but with Newt it’s rather the show stopping breadth of his incisive intellect that grasps the evolution of every single issue, one at a time, the evolution of every contender’s stand ON every issue, and succinctly delivers the cause and effect of both the issue and the stand.

Reminds me of a sword fight, where it is, whack, whack, LUNGE. Every. single. time.

If Rick had been a woman, it would be said of him that he was “shrill”, flailing and a little desperate.
