They are suburbanites and religious people, employers and retirees, millionaires such as John M. Templeton Jr. of Bryn Mawr and homemakers such as Loretta Hill of Devon. What they have in common is an admiration for Rick Santorum.

"No matter what you think about his social views, he's willing to hold his ground," Hill, 58, said. "I think that's one of the things people respect about him."

Pennsylvania's Republican primary may still be two months away, but the presidential campaign of the state's former senator is already raising the excitement level of his supporters back home.

And a new poll suggests their numbers are growing.

You should win your home state by at least 15 points.

I hate that these debates have so much influence. First Perry, then Newt, now Santorum. It's one night. I guess we should just ignore all their policies, experience, and character in favor of their latest debate performance.

Did anyone’s position change last night? No. That’s why debates are a waste of time at this phase of the primary.

Romney & Paul double-teamed Santorum last night, and left Newt alone. So Newt "won" last night's debate, while Santorum was on the defensive.

Newt & Santorum need to form their own team.

If he does, will that take away the sting of losing to the idiot Bob Casey by 18 points? How can a guy who gets creamed as an incumbent Senator stand a chance in a national election?

This thing is so back and forth this year, thanks a lot in due course to a) Romney's illicit and immoral scorched earth, dishonest attacks on everyone who has gotten in his way, all for the sake of power in DC for the RINO Club and whatever power trip he is on, and b) a complicit US Liberal mass media. However, the only thing that matters is how the American People vote, and while it might trend up and down over the next few days and weeks, there are indeeds states in the WIN column for Senator Santorum on the horizon, and more convention delegates. Romney's juggernaut, egged on partially by the DNC as they want another MODERATE to run against since they have good luck with that, can and will be stopped by People Power. Rick can bring them together, he is a tireless campaigner and has a supportive family, he is going to push this thing way past where even Cain could get it to go, and this comes from a former Cain supporter (and quite vocal at that here on FR). GO RICK SANTORUM!!! BEAT ROMNEY IN MICHIGAN AND ARIZONA NEXT WEEK!

I think it was his policies and experience that showed up that is giving him a problem. Crazy uncle paul and mittens shone an unpleasant light on him IMO.

“he’s willing to hold his ground”

“I have to admit, I voted for that,” Santorum said last night. “It was against the principles I believed in, but, you know, when you’re part of the team, sometimes you take one for the team, for the leader, and I made a mistake.” As the debate crowd booed, Santorum continued: “You know, politics is a team sport, folks. And sometimes you’ve got to rally together and do something.”

Yeah and most athletes would lose their jobs and go to prison for throwing the game and betting on the other team.

What we need is a top-notch investigative reporter who could prove the Romney-Paul connection. I don't think the voters would appreciate Romney conspiring to trick them during the primaries with a phony candidacy that's in reality another arm of his own campaign.

Conservatives were PISSED off at Santorum in 2006. It seems most of them have gotten over it. Just a few left overs that probably aren’t even from Pennsylvania.

Or at least that's the latest misconception. Santorum is less an insider than the others. How many 'deals' did Newt and Paul make in Congress. And how many 'earmarks' did Gov. Romney gladly accept into his state, maybe even petitioned for.

"Conservatives were PISSED off at Santorum in 2006."

I agree, but wonder what he has done to change those perceptions, except lie low and talk. It would be another thing if he held an office in which he actually accomplished something conservative.

>>Before Rick fell into the abyss.<<

Which is exactly why I don’t bother to watch the debates!...Why watch something that you need to be told after the fact who won. You can think one person won, or did well, and then the “researcher” and the “analysts” come on and tell you who really won.

Well, I call B.S. I know going in who’s the best person to represent my values, and if they stumble in a debate, or if they state some faux pas, and get pilloried for two days, or two weeks, after, did that change the person. Hell no!

So, a little advice to the rest of you. Skip the debates (After all, they’re moderated by left wing acolytes most of the time anyway.) Spend some time with your kids or grandkids instead, and enjoy reading the after-action nonsense that starts about 5 minutes after the beginning, not the end, of the debate.

Because if we’re going to nominate a smooth talker, well, little advice...the Dems did that last time, and look what it got us....
