“I Think He’s On To Something”

Correction: “I think he’s on something. What’s he smoking?”

Obama’s full of it on two counts.

First, by spending us $14 trillion into debt he’s degraded the currency - oil has an intrinsic value, dollars have a value that can vary with national policy. Our policy under Obama is such that our dollars have lost value relative to the intrinsic worth of petroleum - consequently, the price of raw crude goes up to compensate.

Secondly, to the extent that the problem above is exacerbated by speculators, Obama could reverse the direction of speculation overnight by opening the Gulf, the Arctic, the coasts, and various public lands to drilling, as well as approving Keystone. But he won’t do that - as K-hammer points out, that would underut our algae strategy.

“Obama argues against oil because he’s right, it’s not going to happen overnight. But conservatives and Republicans have argued for 25 years to open up the Arctic. And what do Democrats argue in the ‘80s and the ‘90s and the last decade? ‘Oh, it will take three years or five.’

Yes, it takes 3 to 5 years to open up an oil producing site. Domestic production has indeed increased thanks to North Dakota and Obama has no problem taking credit for it. However, the big glaring hole in his new talking point is he had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Not Krauthammer, too! The outcome of algae technology IS OIL dammit! Get a clue. You’re not going to do it in an adequate abundance like mother nature. Burning algae derived oil is every bit as polluting as Black Gold / Texas Tea.

If a viable, cost-effective method were developed to convert algae to a practical fuel, there's no doubt in my mind that within 10 years, the USFWS would have it declared a protected species.

"Why would you build a pipeline, the Keystone pipeline with real oil from Canada to put in real refineries and put in real existing cars when you can do algae? I think he is on to something. And I think this shows the vision, the hope and change he promised in 2008."

Too bad sarcasm isn't a combustible liquid, Krauthammer could have the price of gas below $3.

Why doesn’t his Nobel Prize winning secretary tell him about big alge projects that were shut down last year.

When I read that for algae to grow like we want it to grow, it will take a tremendous amount of phosphorous, I get skeptical. Getting the quantity necessary to make it work will drive up the cost unless there is technology to recycle the phosphorous from spent algae organisms.

Does anyone remember strange reports from the Gulf Oil Spill??
I’m freaking out, because I remember a lot of weird things going on— there were strange reports coming out all the time. (Grand Isle, LA-arrests taking place, air space being closed over area so journalists couldn’t take photos, and people being terrified?)
Remember how people on foot couldn’t take photos and weren’t allowed in certain areas?
( I bookmarked many links at the time, but that computer crashed long ago.)
As God is my witness, I remember some local people talking about how “someone” was going to get rich, because, as the Gulf died, algae would grow and there was going to be $$$ in it for certain people. (”spooky dude”?)
Does any of this ring a bell with anyone else?

"We're dependent on oil from unfriendlies.

So cancel that pipeline from Canada that would send enough hundreds of thousands of barrels a a day from an ally.
