A smoking ban will prevent NASCAR fans from lighting up in the grandstands at Daytona International Speedway starting with the Coke Zero 400 in July.
Fans will be required to use certain designated areas behind the grandstands once the ban takes effect.
Joie Chitwood III, the Speedway's president, said it's a sign of the times and that no other venue in Florida allows smoking in the stands.

Is NASCAR serious about banning smoking? If they are they’re NUTS.The vehicles racing around the track probably produce more carcinogens than a single cigarette.
The even is held outdoors as well.NASCAR should leave its fans alone and let them enjoy the race or they wll soon become a has been.
Ahh, the putrid reek of hysterical authoritarianism in the morning...
I’ve attended numerous races. Very few smokers in the stands anymore. Just good business. You want to smoke, go out on the concourse so you are not smoking in your neighbor’s face. They’ not prohibiting smoking at the track, just in the stands.
Bottled water and water should be banned.
Water causes drowning.
that might be the new definition of oxymoron
.
I find the NASCAR event silly. People paying money and going to watch fast cars. Obviously I’m not into cars, fast cars. Even though I’m not a fan, I just cannot picture the event without people smoking. It seems those activities go hand in hand.
Banning smoking at these events is crazy. It’s like having an apple pie without the apples.
Instead of separating the smokers from the non smokers, they should separate the non smokers from the smokers. Lock them up in a small room and let them breathe their own air. See how long they last. Breath mint anyone? LOL
Let the smokers have their fun outdoors! They paid for it!
I’ve never smoked cigarettes but grew up around them my entire life. I don’t disdain the smell of cigarettes, but the smell of a good cigar is much more preferable. The worst smokers are those who smoke in their own homes. Despite being a cigar smoker, I go to my mother’s house, and it’s all you smell when you walk in the door. When I work on her computers, the intakes are just caked in yellowy dust. It’s a bit unsavory.
My lady and I smoke on our porch with a fan blowing out the back. It’s not the smoke, it’s the nicotine that I try to avoid getting all into the house. Otherwise, I say, let them smoke at their leisure.
It’s funny how a few centuries ago tobacco was de rigeur, and nowadays it’s a tried-and-true bugaboo. Back then, smoking was a social/leisure activity after a day of plowing fields or hunting. Nowadays people spark up a smoke whenever the day gets a little too rough or after a heavy meal. Our problem isn’t explicitly tobacco, it’s all the other garbage we put into our bodies as well.
I agree with Nascar on this. I don't want to sit watching a race smelling nasty smoke. What about my right not to have to smell it?
Just like sitting in the car at a red light and smelling the smoke coming in through my vent from the smoker directly ahead of me.
That being said I am not for banning cigs and think people should be able to buy them and smoke if they want but don't expect me to have to breathe in that crap.
“don’t expect me to have to breathe in that crap”
But you don’t mind the exhaust of the cars?
Ever cook with a grill?
“Just like sitting in the car at a red light and smelling the smoke coming in through my vent from the smoker directly ahead of me.”
The car belonging to the smoker in front of you may have some bad stuff in it’s exhaust as well. But, it’d be hard to be sitting in a car behind a car at a light and not have that.
This is the wrong time to implement something like this. The campgrounds are barely half full and now they’re banning the diehard fans a cigar or a smoke while attending the only vacation they’ll take all year. Pure stupidity. What’s next Daytona, ban smoking at Bike Week and Spring Break?
What a bunch of Chit.
I reckon there’ll be a market for non-smoking tires, too...
“a totally USELESS product”
So are many things that you use every day. Maybe those should be banned.
Where is it the government’s (that’s you and everyone else) place to tell everyone what they can and cannot have based on usefulness?
Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
“What about my right not to have to smell it? “
At a NASCAR race??? Never been to one I take it. Exhaust from race cars and tire smoke and BBQ shacks and you want to claim that BS line??
Yes I have been to one and many drag races. Big difference between exhaust and tire smoke and someone puffing right in your face with nasty cigs. No worse smell.
I don't smell the exhaust of cars sitting in front of me unless it's a diesel. I do smell cigs when the people in front of me have their window down.
I grill all the time and don't smell much smoke if very little.
Ya think?
