Iran announced Monday it had deployed warplanes and missiles in an exercise' to protect its nuclear sites from attack.
Tehran also warned it could cut oil exports to more European Union nations unless sanctions were lifted. On Sunday, Iran cut oil sales to Britain and France.
French foreign minister Alain Juppe responded by mocking Iran, saying Tehran's threats "made one smile." He added that Iran was "very creative" in its attempts to "provoke" its fellow nations.
The European Union had already voted to halt imports of Iranian crude oil as of 1 July 2001. The EU has also imposed heavy sanctions on Iran's Central Bank.
EU sanctions closely mirror those imposed by the United States and are intended to force Iran to abandon its nuclear program, which is widely suspected of seeking nuclear weapons.

Isn’t the Iranian air force made up of a bunch of old soviet cast-off planes and few old, old, old 1970s era US planes?
No idea. Unwise to underestimate an enemy prior to war, though.
USAF - for when the Ayatollah’s nuke sites absolutely, positively have to be destroyed overnight.
And I volunteer.
Heck, I’ll throw in a destroyed Ayatollah or two for free.
I say nuke the little Persian pricks and add Tehran to Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the history books, they’ll remember THAT American Trifecta.
Truman had the ‘nads to do the right thing, we know 0bama doesn’t, and we sure as Hell know Mitt-Witt doesn’t, but I would bet that Newt and/or Rick have the balls.
The planes (interceptors) are the least of the problem. Modern Russian-built SAMs would be the first line of defense unless the Iranian’s could mount an effective around-the-clock AWACs patrol. Otherwise the attacker would be in-and-out before the Iranians got off the ground.
Old F-4s, F-5s and F-14As with TF30s do not make effective air defenses. Don’t get me started on their MIG-29s that came in from Iraq.
What AWACS? They lost their only A-50 mainstay back in 2010.
One of the more effective things that could be done right now would be to “leak” some “projected” attack damage estimates on Iran to the Internet. Omit who is doing the theoretical damage.
The idea is to project heavy damage to some cities, with extensive civilian casualties, with other cities pretty well wiped out, almost all of their citizens dead. The idea is to suggest to parts of the Iranian public that it would be a very good deal to relocate for a few months.
As propaganda, this would put heavy pressure on the Iranian government, especially if some of those cities were not particularly involved in nuclear development or military affairs.
Along with the publicly known targets, throw in a bunch of seemingly random targets for especially heavy attack. This will even perplex the various parts of the government who will wonder if their bosses aren’t telling them about important stuff, or that some other faction has built secret bases.
There are even some religious sites that could be targeted for utter obliteration. Like the well the 12th Imam is supposed to emerge from. Barrel o’ laughs.
So the Iranian's will be relying on SAMs. I don't know the operational status of their later stuff, but you can bet the IAF does. And those radars will come in for some hacking. An electronic "heart-attack".
Iran has the following missiles below. All systems have had countermeasures developed against them. They also have not taken delivery of Russian S-300s. You can bet on the reds helping them by providing these a la Yom Kippur ‘73. If S-300s are deployed, it’s guaranteed that the US will be in this and using 5th Gen aircraft (F-22s) for SEAD/Wild Weasel.
Iranian SAMs:
MIM-23 Hawk
SM-1
Tor-M1
S-200
HQ-2
SA-3
SA-6
HQ-7
RBS-70
SA-7 Grail
SA-16 Gimlet
SA-18 Grouse
Q. What’s the difference between Israeli pilots and Iranian pilots?
A. Israeli pilots break ground and fly into the wind.
COOOOOOLLLLLLLL!!! When the Israelis take out the nuke sites, they can also help Iran scrap their junky “air force”!!
Still no S-300? That puts Iran’s air defenses in pretty poor shape.
The S-300 is not all that great honestly. It’s over-estimated and still an old system. Some may know that Serbia actually had S-300s during Operation Allied Force. None were really a serious threat to our aircraft over the Balkans.
That's priceless...and apropos. Well done.
That is great!
Just what happened to those 30,00 shoulder fire missiles that disappeared in Lybia?
