Mitt Romney has raised the issue of the social safety net. Washington could learn from the lesson of his church.
Ever since Mitt Romney said he was "not concerned about the very poor" but would fix America's social safety net "if it needs repair," conservatives and liberals have been frantically making suggestions. Gov. Romney says he would consider options like restructuring Medicaid. But if he wants to see a welfare system that lets almost no one fall through the cracks while at the same time ensuring that its beneficiaries don't become lifelong dependents, he could look to his own church.
As I ride in a golf cart through a new 15-acre warehouse on the outskirts of Utah's capital, I can't help but wonder: How many Wal-Marts would fit in here? How many burgers can you make from 4,400 industrial pallets of frozen meat? And how do they keep this place cleaner than my kitchen floor?
Dedicated last month, the Bishops Central Storehouse contains a two-year supply of food to support the Mormon church's welfare system in the U.S. and Canada (primarily for church members in need) and its humanitarian program, which sends food, medical supplies and other necessities to the needy (of all faiths) world-wide.
In addition to goods from canned peaches to emergency generators, the facility also houses the church's own trucking company, complete with 43 tractors and 98 trailers, as well as a one-year supply of fuel, parts and tires for the vehicles. Just in case.
The storehouse is not only a kind of physical marvelit has been built to withstand an earthquake with a magnitude as high as 7.5but also a symbol of strength and self-sufficiency.

Cults can do many things within their cult that don’t work among the rest of humanity.
A good tight cult can even have everyone in it commit suicide, as a team effort.
Hare Krishnas get along pretty well also.
They also have a monetary welfare system. But it is workfare. They ask you help clean a church for a couple of weekends and the like in return with help paying your rent or other bills.
The Mormon method of welfare is actually the one good thing about the Mormon church.
You work for it, whether it be in one of their bookstores to gain job skills or something.
They don’t just give you money.
The funds raised in these FReepathons go to pay our current quarter expenses. But we're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little extra now, if we can, and the rest next quarter.

We could go back to the Bible to see how the ancient Israelites took care of their own. Most of America has been swept up in the big government/Roosevelt view of what helping thy neighbor means. We have all been hypnotized by the socialist/big government way of looking at life, American culture and community has been weakened.
The Mormon cult also taxes it’s members.
Mormons are required to give 10% of their income to the group, Bishop Mitt Romney has transferred tens of millions to them.
As Bishop, Mitt Romney had the authority to request a Mormons federal tax returns, if he was suspicious that they were holding out on the organization.
Where’s the “Like” button?
The Mormons are bleeding the beast, don’t be fooled
Parroting that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a cult, doesn’t make it so -
other than in the broadest sense of the word - which also covers the other churches.
Buy a clue.
CULT:
1.
a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2.
an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, especially as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3.
the object of such devotion.
4.
a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5.
Sociology . a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
they have ranches, warehouses, canneries, etc., all over the country.
As the late Paul Harvey once said: “If the other churches followed the welfare program that the Mormons do, there would be no need for public welfare.”
And they give to any in need - regardless of their beliefs, without question. In natural catastrophes, they are about the first on the scene with planes, trucks, boats full of supplies and people to help...and they do not advertise this.
http://mormon.org/humanitarian-aid/
One example of their humanitarian aid:
http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/51578/Tsunami-relief-aid-finished-in-Indonesia.html
They follow Jesus’s admonition to feed and cloth the needy...how terrible. They follow the Jesus’s teachings in the parable of the wise and foolish virgins - to be prepared against future need. They take Jesus’s teachings literally. How ‘cultish’
After the initial rush to Indonesia with food, water, personnel, etc - following the devastating tsunami that killed over 200,000 - the church stayed on for THREE YEARS to help them get back on their feet. Here’s a list of some of the things they accomplished. (Some ‘cult.’ Jesus says ‘By their fruits ye shall know them.”
Major Church projects included:
The construction of 15 schools, including the training of new teachers.
The building of 902 homes. The homes were furnished with a starter kit which included one mattress, six plates, six glasses, 12 spoons, one wok, and one stove.
The construction of three community centers.
The construction of three health clinics and a wing of an existing hospital. Each was fully equipped, and doctors and medical staff were trained.
The completion of 24 village water projects, reaching 20,000 people.
The restoration of shrimp and rice farms.
The building of large and small fishing boats.
The purchase of sewing machines, looms and other self-employment equipment.
The longer-term aid and development in Indonesia followed numerous emergency response efforts including:
50 pallets/medical modules.
20 pallets/first aid supplies.
4 pallets of shoes.
345 bales of clothing.
Food, water, hand-held communications equipment and a wide range of other supplies and aid.

by their fruits, indeed.
And you too. Ignorance smells.
It would be nice if just ONE TIME on FR, there could be a thread touching on the Mormons that didn’t bring out the frothing, un-Christian haters.
That said, Romney is a sleaze ball. I know a lot of Mormons but I don’t know any that will vote for him. Neither are they admonished too. That’s another Biblical tenet they espouse: Free Will. (It’s odd how if a member of the Mormon church is less than 100% - the whole church is judged.)
They have a saying: - let me see if I can find it:
Okay - found it. It’s from one of their hymns:
“Heavenly Father will call, persuade, direct aright, And bless with wisdom, love, and light, In nameless ways be good and kind, But never force the human mind (Know This, That Every Soul Is Free, Hymns, no. 240).”
Gee, Watch out for these evil cultists.
I have my strong disagreements with the Mormons, but this is one thing that they have done right, and continue to do in spite of the nearly monolithic government welfare industry. FDR’s New Deal, and its continuation, has just about killed off private charity in this country. Before the New Deal, and the Depression which it prolonged, there were local charitable organizations that were privately and voluntarily funded and operated. The government had pushed them aside. Even the black neighborhoods had “mutual assistance societies” that were getting the job done, until the liberals in the name of “helping” them destroyed neighborhoods and families and herded them into Soviet style apartment projects. Even some of my liberal friends have been waking up to this, seeing the government welfare bureaucrat as only interested in keeping more people dependant on the dole in order to justify their jobs rather than really helping people, and thus seeing more merit with the private, local, and voluntary model.
I never said that the cult that spends a small fortune on public relations and fake imagery was stupid.
I just pointed out that they are a cult, an anti-Christian cult
It is hard to think of anything more evil than pretending to be a Christian religion, to trick Christians away from Christ.
“Milk before meat”, means that they try to draw you in and only feed you enough information to lead you to the next step, only a small number of Mormons qualify for the full truth, Bishop, and Temple Mormon, Mitt Romney, knows about that.
"Once abolish the God, and the government becomes the God." - G.K. Chesterton
BTW, this is only ONE store/warehouse they have - across the country - they have a vast black Angus ranch in Florida -
They have distribution centers across the country - How many churches do this?
And, their bishops give their time to the church - they make their own living.
One of my sons is a long hauler - he has delivered to some of these warehouse - says they’re incredible.
There are many worthwhile things about the Mormons. I don’t hold with their theology, but on this side of the great veil, they are an unalloyed blessing wherever they live and work. Proud to call them friends and neighbors.
ignorance is pathetic
When the Mormon bashing get to much to bear, I rely on this reply:
I'd rather walk with one million Mormons at my back than one muslim at my side!
you are SO disingenuous, it's sad. It isn't a TAX. Ever heard of tithing? Read the Bible - tithe = one tenth
The hare Krishna used to feed none Krishna people for free.
You could walk into their halls and join them in gourmet meals, in Pacific Beach (San Diego), huge crowds would show up, they were incredible meals, since then they have had to make an attempt to charge, to try and defray some of the cost.
I don’t think they become Gods themselves, like Mormons do.
