Pop quiz: Which Republican presidential candidate supported the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor?

Hint: It’s the same one who endorsed a pro-abortion-rights presidential candidate in an earlier campaign.

Give up? The answer is Rick Santorum.

Santorum was rightly known as a conservative firebrand during his 12 years in the Senate, but the 1998 confirmation vote for Sonia Sotomayor to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals was a notable exception, and so was his endorsement of Arlen Specter’s bid for the 1996 Republican presidential nomination

and Doug Hoffman who was the Conservative party candidate says don't hold that against Newt! Hoffman says Newt was given bad information by the local GOP. If you want to blame someone blame them! Newt testified against Gore and “Cap & Trade”!(Don't believe me look it up!) Now he hasn't walked back his previous naivete toward global warming sufficiently to satisfy me but he is getting there. Newt has always been too uncritical of them claims of environmentalists. In his defense he argues that there is a conservative pro-enviroment position and I agree. Otherwise you cede that political playing field to Rats that claim that conservatives are for foul air and dirty water. Also he did publicly playing snuggle bunny with Pelosi was a dumb thing to do.

Because one of Santorum’s talking points, which he has repeated over and over AND OVER is: I am the courageous conservative, I am the consistent conservative, I am the one you can count on to stand on principle when everybody else folds, and doesn’t have the courage of their convictions. I will stand up for conservative principles, because I am principled. I am different, I am better, I’m Rick Santorum!

well, how about this? Take one step back, start supporting Newt again, dig in, and don’t give up. Stand fast. That’s how Newt will win, and that’s how America will win. Promise :)
