Pop quiz: Which Republican presidential candidate supported the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor?
Hint: Its the same one who endorsed a pro-abortion-rights presidential candidate in an earlier campaign.
Give up? The answer is Rick Santorum.
Santorum was rightly known as a conservative firebrand during his 12 years in the Senate, but the 1998 confirmation vote for Sonia Sotomayor to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals was a notable exception, and so was his endorsement of Arlen Specters bid for the 1996 Republican presidential nomination

Because one of Santorum’s talking points, which he has repeated over and over AND OVER is: I am the courageous conservative, I am the consistent conservative, I am the one you can count on to stand on principle when everybody else folds, and doesn’t have the courage of their convictions. I will stand up for conservative principles, because I am principled. I am different, I am better, I’m Rick Santorum!
well, how about this? Take one step back, start supporting Newt again, dig in, and don’t give up. Stand fast. That’s how Newt will win, and that’s how America will win. Promise :)
