NC preschooler’s “unhealthy” lunch replaced with cafeteria nuggets

RAEFORD, N.C. — A Hoke County preschooler was fed chicken nuggets for lunch because a state worker felt that her homemade lunch did not have enough nutritional value, according to a report by the Carolina Journal.

The West Hoke Elementary School student was in her More at Four classroom when a state agent who was inspecting lunch boxes decided that her packed lunch — which consisted of a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice and potato chips — “did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines,” the Journal reports.

...

The student’s mother told the Journal she received a note from the school about the incident and was charged $1.25 for the cafeteria tray, from which her daughter only ate three chicken nuggets.

A turkey cheese sandwich, presumably on white bread w/ mayo isn't great, but could be worse. A banana is alright - it's good quality food. Apple juice may or may not be the real deal, but is likely to have too much sugar either way. Potato chips are tasty, but they are garbage food.

In the original article the pictured school lunch had the following:

A breaded patty of some sort, probably chicken - these are typically made up from rib meat, and possibly from bleached dark meat. It is essentially chicken loaf pressed into a form - a large chicken nugget. This is truly awful food, likely to be loaded with salt and fat and is really quite bad for you.

Pineapple chunks - not altogether bad, but canned pineapple packed in syrup is a dash of fiber loaded up w/ corn syrup. Minimal nutritional value.

Corn, likely canned - is again simply a load of carbs and fiber that has been stripped of any and all nutrients.

Lastly, catchup - it is what it is - tomatoes cooked down w/ spices and lots of corn syrup.

The "nutritional" school lunch pictured is at least as crappy as the one brought from home, and probably is significantly worse.

It is bad enough that our POS government doesn't care one wit about our rights as parents, but to trample those rights in order to make things worse, while using tax dollars to do it is tyrannical.

Thanks. I actually did a couple of searches prior to posting (one of which was a title search using “nugget”) ... and found nothing even resembling this.

Oh, well!

Since they sent a bill for the lunch tray she should respond by sending them a bill. It should cover the cost of food and for labor making the lunch (billed 1 hour minimum).

Send them a $20 charge minus the $1.25 tray fee for $18.75. This bill cannot be paid for in school lunch credits, only cash or check.

So the “inspector” thinks deep fried breaded lumps that start out as an ammonia disinfected pink slaughter house reject goop is healthier than a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, potato chips, and apple juice. Calling him or her an imbecile is an insult to real imbeciles everywhere.

The Lunch Gestapo agent just wanted to bogart the little girl’s lunch.
Probably gets stuck eating the lunch cafeteria’s solyent green du jour, and here was a chance to pilfer some tasty real food.

It’s worse than that. They are trying to force people to purchase the government/school lunch.

I advocated so strongly for my kids in school that the teachers, aides, admin. staff, and even the custodial staff at each school that my sons attended knew my name...the high school principal or vice p. would meet with me within minutes of my walking into the office. Sure seems that things have greatly deteriorated in 10 years.

For The Record, it was wheat bread. Don't forget that the lunch was packed with love. I think that was the element that offended the most.

I forgot to add torches to my list on another thread of things the good residents of that burg should be gathering: pitchforks, rails, tar, feathers ... and torches. The next school board meeting should be epic. Symbolically, of course; I advocate no actual harm.

Last I knew the government allowed cysts and other bad sections of meat into 'nuggets'.

Okay, the state worker "felt" it wasn't right.

I would rather have them thinking instead of feeling, but that is probably too much to ask.

WTH is going on in this country where you have government employees checking kids lunchbags?

Might be time to reload and unload and repeat until the threat is over.

I only meant to add to the discussion. Can't be posted often enough, IMO.

These "trial runs/trial balloons" tend to go federal in our resident fascists' regime.

Apparently, there are state "lunch policemen," but I haven't seen what agency they belong to. Have been curious about that.
