Poll shows Santorum leading GOP race in Tennessee

NASHVILLE — Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has scheduled a trip to Tennessee next week while a poll indicates Rick Santorum is now leading in the state despite his lack of a campaign organization within the state.

The American Research Group Inc. poll, involving 600 "likely" Republican voters contacted by telephone Feb. 8-9, found Santorum favored by 34 percent, followed by Mitt Romney (27 percent), Gingrich (16 percent) and Ron Paul (13 percent).

The former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania recruited no committed delegates to appear on the Tennessee's March 6 ballot, though if he wins the state primary, he will have delegates assigned by the state Republican Party in consultation with his campaign. Santorum last week won in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri and has been surging in national polls.

Romney, Gingrich and Paul all have a Tennessee organization and all recruited committed delegates.

I voted for Duncan Hunter at 9AM on Wednesday the first day of early voting in 2008

He dropped out on Saturday, 3 days later...

I have a clean conscience about my vote...

Should I have voted for the liberals Romney or McCain ???

Maybe Obama to make should my vote was altermitly not wasted ???

Santorum. The establishment’s hole card.

Absolutely!

Your name will be listed as having already voted.. thats TN law...

Are you sure about that? I've never seen a list of early voters in our paper. I guess it could have been there, since I dropped my subscription, but I have never heard about that before.

A couple of more things, Crazy ole coot. For early voting, as Nana said, you need to check where the polling places are. In my county, there are not at the regular precinct locations. And, you can go to any early voting location; you are not assigned a particular place. You do have to go to your assigned precinct if you do not early vote and wait until normal voting day. Finally, Tennessee is an open primary state. You do not have to register with a particular party. You go on primary day (or early voting for the primary) and tell them which primary you wish to vote in.

Welcome to WEST Tennessee. Unlike southern or northern California, we drop the ern. I moved to Memphis from the L.A. area. I had to learn a whole new language. Call the Election Commission, they will tell you where early voting places are.

You remind me of a self-entitled wealthy businessman who ran for U.S. Senate from CA his first time on the ballot.

He lost the GOP primary yet called those who cast ballots for a conservative who dropped out by election day "idiots" in the press.

That guy is, now Congressman, Darryl Issa.

I think Palin is wrong on this one. The arithmetic of delegate selection favors the single moderate against 2 conservatives.

As for being negative... gee, Romney is the current delegate-count front-runner and equipped with an army of workers and an arsenal of campaign funds.

But I guess you’re right.

What’s there to be negative about?

Let’s all sing and dance in the meadow! It’s Pollyanna time!

“there is no way Santorum wins in the general.”

It seems hopeless for any GOP to win against Hussein. We can’t even beg in to imagine the evil that the other side will stoop to win. It’s easy to think we can’t possibly win.

Once I’ve gone there, I have to remind myself that we have to give it up to God who does have the power to win against Obama. I’m thinking that the month or week before the General, we should set up a “pray around the clock” schedule, maybe in half-hour increments, and ask for God’s mercy on America, and a defeat for the democrats — White House, Senate, and House.

Early voting in TN

*****

I like the following ID requirements that went into effect Jan. 1, 2012, Good for TN.

http://www.tn.gov/sos/election/

2012 Voter Identification Requirements

Beginning January 1, 2012, all voters must present an ID containing the voter’s name and photograph when voting at the polls, whether voting early or on Election Day.

Don’t be silly. Newt is not dropping out before Super Tuesday, when Tennessee’s primary is. Only 3 states vote between now and then and they’re not ones Newt is counting on winning.

Voting early is silly at this point. We have two debates before March 6th. Why not wait and see how the candidates do? If you like both Newt and Rick, it makes sense to wait until the day of the primary to see who is polling ahead at that point, and give them your vote so we have a better chance of defeating Romney. Two debates and 3 weeks of potential negative campaigning against Santorum is a LOT more than it’s taken to turn this race around before.

>>It seems hopeless for any GOP to win against Hussein.<<

Actually the only one I see that could do it is Gingrich. He owes no one in DC and in fact would probably be the one person to “show them a thing or two” because of the way they treated him in the past. He isn’t so far right that he would turn off the moderates and he has shown the ability to work across the isle and still get done what he wants done.

>>Once I’ve gone there, I have to remind myself that we have to give it up to God who does have the power to win against Obama.<<

I’m with you on that one. I don’t know what you believe about prophecy but I see that we are very close to the end times and if that’s the case there will be no conservative elected. In order for what I believe prophecy is saying to happen the one world government is very close. At that point we will truly be in God’s hands.

>>we should set up a “pray around the clock” schedule, maybe in half-hour increments, and ask for God’s mercy on America<<

Amen and Amen! I would add to that prayer request that He open the eyes of those who profess to be Christian to what is really happening with abortion, gay marriage and so many other things.

There's still a long way to go and Romney's positives are already dropping according to the latest polls. I think there is still time; especially if Newt can hold on until Super Tuesday.

Meanwhile Rick seems to be giving Mitt all he can take and then some in the Michigan Primary race and Newt is ahead in Ohio.

At any rate, dancing is not my forte’!

We shall see how things progress.

‘Take care,

-Geoff

Yes, you are right, we shall see.

You make good points, and I hate to be on the opposite side of an argument from Sarah Palin, but it just scares the crap out of me when there are two basically good men splitting the votes of the good people, while an evil man schemes to slip past them with a thin plurality.

But you are right. We shall see.

The Santorum supporters ruled out that option.

Newt won’t drop out before the Tennessee primary date, which is Super Tuesday. He’d be stupid to drop out leading up to March 6th. Perhaps after. But I see no point in him folding now.
