Our family has been school-free (tm) since 1999. None of our children will have attended schools of any kind. Unfortunately, our oldest wants to go to college, ruining an otherwise perfect record.

Did the inspector wear gloves when handling each child's lunch? Were those gloves changed after each inspection to prevent any possible cross contamination should one of the lunches have bacteria, pet dander or peanut residue on it from home? If not, then this is a serious violation of safe food handling requirements and the instpector should be fined and retrained in proper food handling techniques.

Someone could have been seriously injured or killed. (/sarc)

Ohhhhh my..... breathe, Tatt. Breathe, and think calm thoughts.

Now. Read over the article again, and the thread just to be certain.

Breathe.

I will choose what is healthy for myself, thank you very much. And when my children have children of their own, and I am taking care of them, I will choose just as I did when mine own were young.

No government or school employee has any business inspecting anyone’s homemade food.
Allow me to paraphrase a most excellent comment I read on another FoodNazi thread, (apologies that the original poster’s name escapes me) - “”Does the phrase, “My body - My choice” sound at all familiar Libs?””

Ours went through public school, but in the words of my youngest on graduation night, “Nick of time, Mom. Nick of time.”

Dear Lord, please, give us the strength to take our country back. Our children, and our very lives.
Tatt

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

There was a news story some months back regarding the vile concoction that goes into chicken nuggets, complete with photos prior to breading and cooking. Picture creamy smooth pink self serve ice cream. Absolutely nausea inducing.

It's a good thing the food police weren't around during the 50’s. Occasionally my Italian Mom would make me, peppers and scrambled eggs fried in canola oil for lunch. She would wrap the sandwich in wax paper and place it in a paper bag. By lunch time the lunch bag would be completely soiled with oil. The kids in class, after viewing the lunch bag would say ‘Hey DUCKKID, you got peppers and eggs today huh?’

I am having a hard time with the idea of “food police” at schools- in fact this is something as a mom I would be pitching a fit about. Some parents do feed their children very bad diets, but I sure don’t want the government regulating that- and like other things the government gets into they are not feeding the children any better- I have seen some of the strange stuff they feed in cafeterias. YUK and doesn’t look nutritious to me either.

As a side note the sandwich had a serving of meat, dairy (if the cheese was real cheese), grains, banana and juice are both fruit- a whole banana for a small child is two servings. As another poster said children do need fat so chips are not be the best choice but with a balanced meal not bad enough to get excited about.

Sounds like they are drumming up business for the cafeteria and next they will be trying to coerce the parents into the free lunch program- schools scam extra money that way and want all the children on the free/reduced meal program these days. I did fight that one for years, refused to fill out the paperwork- told them it was none of their business how much money we made, we were not asking for anything...was a battle every year.

according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes

Honestly, I am speechless that Americans even allow this.

Rome is burning, and all we do is vote that the fire should be put out.

What a bunch of mindless idiots this country has become. We certainly have the government we deserve.

When I was in grade school, I was given a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, drink, and snack in my lunch most days by my mother. If my lunch had ever been “inspected” and I then had chicken nuggets forced on me, I absolutely would have thrown them on the floor in my refusal to eat them.

The nuggets were probably sharia-compliant meat by-products.

What if the poor child had Celiac disease and the goo wrapped around that nugget would have made them vehemently sick? Sounds like this family has a nice tidy lawsuit they can file.

Last week, I sent my GD to school with her healthful *snack* ...a ripe pear with a slicer corer. [I didn't pre-cut it at home b/c it would have turned brown by the time she opened it]The principal called her dad at work....all hysterical...the teacher called me...all of a flutter. It's insane.

If they saw this child *Rachel Ray* chopping vegetables with a sharp knife, in my supervised kitchen...I'd be taken away to a gulag. I know, I'm a bad-bad person.

Has anyone questioned what happened to this girl's 4th amendment rights against illegal search and seizure? Was there a warrant stating probable cause, the place to search, and what they expect to find?
