In 2008 when my wife, Gena, and I were on the campaign trail backing former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for president, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum was fighting to get former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney elected. (Listen in this video how Santorum passionately endorsed and elevated Mitt in his bid for the Oval Office.)
Just three years ago in his interview with radio host and conservative commentator Laura Ingraham, Santorum also emphatically told millions of listening Americans: If youre a conservative, if youre a Republican, there is only one place to go, and thats Mitt Romney.

Yes I am serious. I don’t get into youtube battles - and definitely won’t about two men I truly respect. If I were someone who did, I could grab some terrible clips of Mr.Newt from the FL debates, as you know. I refuse to do such cherry picking in any venue. There are some really rocking examples of Santorum speaking of the the Constitution and the Declaration. I agree that Mr.Newt is even better, but Rick can be very inspirational, too.
Frankly, I just cannot fathom HOW a conservative may prefer Santorum over Newt.
When one compares their political records, their experience, their solutions and plans for restoring America's economy and greatness, their vision for the future of the country, it becomes crystal clear WHO must be the next president - Newt Gingrich.
“Rick can be very inspirational too”
Fine.
Give me a live example. All Santorum speeches a heard so far made me sleepy.
I’ve got to disagree about Santorum’s ability as a speaker.
I have listened to him in person long before he ever ran for the presidency, and he is outstanding, able to captivate with ideas.
I continue to support BOTH Newt and Rick, and I think it’s crazy for conservatives to be attacking one or the other instead of attacking Romney.
Why should we help Romney knock off one or the other and find ourselves left with NONE?
Romney is clearly a liberal.
And despite their stumbles, both Newt and Rick have always been conservatives. It’s that simple.
“I continue to support BOTH Newt and Rick, and I think its crazy for conservatives to be attacking one or the other instead of attacking Romney.”
In my opinion, Romney is toast.
“And despite their stumbles, both Newt and Rick have always been conservatives. Its that simple.”
Then WHY don’t you tell Rick TO STOP running negative ads against Newt? He led vociferous attacks against Newt in Missouri, where Gingrich wasn’t even on the ballot.
Santorum is Romney’s twin in this respect. I cannot support either.
“Then WHY dont you tell Rick TO STOP running negative ads against Newt? He led vociferous attacks against Newt in Missouri, where Gingrich wasnt even on the ballot.”
“the newest broadcast ad from Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, which calls Gingrich’s economic proposals “fiscal insanity.”
The ad’s wording and tone also borrows a read-between-the-lines theme that front-runner Mitt Romney has been using against Gingrich - that he is mentally unstable and therefore unfit for the presidency. In addition to liberal use of the word “insanity,” a digital press release accompanying the ad makes note of “Gingrich’s erratic behavior” and “wild ideas.”
The text of the radio ad, which the Santorum campaign says will be aired nationally beginning Friday, says, “Reckless spending has led to a 15-trillion-dollar national debt. That’s $50,000 of debt for every person in America, and it’s crushing our economy. And what’s Newt Gingrich suggest? Spending half a trillion dollars on a moon colony.”
I’m not talking about the candidates leveling off on each other...that’s to be expected.
It’s the conservatives I don’t want knocking off one or the other candidate, because it plays into Romney’s hands.
But, I do expect Gingrich and Santorum to play up their strengths and play down their weaknesses. I expect them to play up the other’s weaknesses, and play down their strengths.
I am fine with:
1. Gingrich winning the nomination
2. Santorum winning the nomination
3. Their combined total preventing Romney from winning the nomination.
If you agree with that little pric... Santorum calling Speaker Gingrich “insane”, then I guess our discussion has to end NOW.
Juan Williams is such a tool...
Wonder how he justifys his whoredom...
Maybe “just makin a livin”... like a parasite..
Must be Juan McLaims excuse as well.. and Romney..
and even Santorum to some extent..
I am not amused Pod..
That’s a lie and Santorum knows it. Gingrich called for the private sector and very little government involvement.
Sheeeeeesh.
No comparison between the two.
Gingrich is a statesman. “Rooster” Santorum is a schoolboy, like his grade school nickname.
Newt leads. Santorum copies.
Newt is astute.
Santorum will bore ‘em.
>>The virtual charters are funded by the individual districts for THEIR students. They pay for each student enrolled (who would otherwise be a student at the physical district school). Yes, public education in PA is funded by property taxes paid TO THAT DISTRICT.<<
Actually, the PA Department of Education states that
- Charter schools will receive funds for operation from both the state and local level. Funding is provided by removing allocations that are not part of the operating costs of a charter school from the total expenditures per average daily membership of the school district of residence. School districts are provided temporary funding for the transitional costs of a district’s students enrolling in a charter school and are provided payments due to the transfer of private school students to a public charter school.
and
— A charter school shall enroll students who chose to apply and are residents of the school district or participating districts. Nonresident students may also be enrolled with first preference given to resident students. Capacity issues will be settled by the use of a lottery. Discrimination is prohibited in admission decisions; however, the charter school may limit admission to a particular grade level or area of concentration and my set reasonable criteria to evaluate prospective students, consistent with the charter.

So, Santorum and his family pay property taxes to his district. They got the money.
[ I dont like him because I dont see him as a fiscal conservative, and I dont see him as electable. He lacks charisma and ideas, a deadly combination. ]
Right... I think Santorum has too many family problems...
Then to add the countrys problems to all that might overwhelm him..
Hes going in too many directions..
Newt is the ONLY candidate left that CAN HANDLE americas problems..
America is screwed with ZERO at the helm -OR- Romney..
Santorum may neglect either his family -OR- the country.
Did I say NEWT is the ONLY ANSWER?.. I believe I did..
The only “insane” comment I ever heard from him was that he called Gingrich’s moon colony idea “fiscal insanity”.
Do you know of another time, because that one doesn’t count. It’s just a policy difference.

Newt has been a longtime loyalist to the party. He even backed Bush, Sr. for reelection even after their big public disagreement on Bush, Sr.'s tax hikes. Newt believes in having a vigorous debate within the party but when it comes time to elections, he does not believe it's in our interest to undercut the party's chosen candidates. Which makes it all the more ironic how much the establishment has been trying to undercut him since his candidacy started.
That was not the only one negative ad Santorum launched against Newt.
“The pro-Rick Santorum super PAC is out with its first negative ad against the candidates GOP opponents in Minnesota.
The Red, White and Blue Funds latest television commercial, called The Only One, will air in the Minneapolis market comparing Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich to President Obama.
The 30-second spot shows images of Obama, Romney and Gingrich while the announcer says, Theyre not so different.
Supporting big government that strangles our nations ability to create jobs. Bailouts. Government-run health care, the voiceover reads before asking, Who can we trust?
The ad goes on to say that Santorum is the only proven conservative.
Watch the disgusting ad here:

Hello? What EXACTLY has Newt “in common” with Romney and Obama????
As I said before, Santorum ads are as despicable as Romney’s. Both are lying through their teeth, while they KNOW they are lying, but they continue lying , looking right at you. Santorum is slime, just like Romney.
When freshman elected in the House, Gingrich warmly welcomed him and helped him make his first classes as Congressman. That’s Santorum’s payback to Gingrich’s kindness, calling him “insane”.
I’m really mad at that insufferable, boring, pedantic liar.
The letter is accurate. It WAS handed out by Rick’s campaign. It is jumping from that letter to some type of argument that it shows that his recent statements somehow represent a lie that I object to, and that those at politifact and other liberal media (and supporters of name-your-candidate) completely misrepresent, in this case by their willful analysis as if that letter occurred in some type of a vacuum rather than being part of a whole body of events. Similarly, I object to those who solely present “in a vacuum” such things as:
Mr.Newt’s early foray into “individual mandates” (along with Heritage Foundation);
his “sitting on the couch” with Pelosi and supporting some type of CapNTax;
Newt’s wife problems;
Newt’s “anger”;
his comments about Ryan’s budget proposal;
and other such things that I could put up here if I were a Newt basher.
There are surely objections to Mr.Newt, that I can understand people having. There are objections to Mitt, Santorum, and RonPaul, just as surely that there were to Cain, Bachmann, Palin, Perry, Daniels, JebBush, ... who have I forgotten ... I could go through objections to every one of them just as I could about the objections to Obama and Hitlery. Heck: I could cite even more objections to ME!!!
Is MrNewt a great thinker, and has he been a great asset to conservatism in general? ABSOLUTELY - possibly his contributions to my cause have been greater than any other person in the last two decades - with Justice Scalia being one of the few others in his class. Is MrNewt the best candidate for the GOP in 2012? That is a much closer question. No matter what _I_ think that of him, he also has some deficits, including his like/dislike numbers, and some powerful voices against him. That I disagree with those assessments is not material to the importance of my weighing those factors, and trying to figure out whether he can overcome them. I believe that Newt a pretty good chance of overcoming much of his problems, by the way. I am NOT as sanguine about Mitt’s chances of overcoming his.
I agree with your touting Mr.Newt’s assets. Please continue to do so. You make some great posts in support!
The problem I have with many on this type of forum dragging down other candidates is that ALL are much much better than the person now in the whitehouse. That person is the odds-on favorite for re-election. I know that one of those much much better people will be our candidate in November, and I believe we should do our best to maximize each of their assets and minimize their liabilities for us to achieve the goal of replacing him. I can find much to support in any of them, even second-last Mitt, though I find aspects of RonPaul extremely troubling. Parroting overblown assessments by the liberal media (or the anti-whoever forces) intentionally bashing of any of these candidates works against that goal.
I wrote a couple months ago that I think that any of those seven or so candidates could beat Obama, there is good in all of them, but we need to work with each other, not against each other, to take maximum advantage of this opportunity.
