BLYTHE, Calif.A major Southern California solar energy project could be delayed or even canceled following a deadly outbreak of distemper among kit foxes and the discovery of a prehistoric human settlement on the work site, according to a report Saturday.
The $1 billion Genesis Solar Energy Project near Blythe in the desert east of Los Angeles was on track to start producing power for some 187,500 homes starting in 2014.
But critics tell the Los Angeles Times ( http://lat.ms/wrtgOD) the distemper outbreak and discovery of a possible Native American cremation site show that expedited procedures approved by state and federal regulators failed to protect wildlife and irreplaceable cultural resources. They say the problems could probably have been avoided by more rigorous research and planning.
The 250-megwatt plant was backed by an $825 million Department of Energy loan guarantee. Genesis had hoped to be among the first of a dozen approved solar farms to start operating in Southern California.

Seems like another “shovel ready project” hit somes old bones.
Now, I wonder whether it will be:
The Energy Department
Department of the Interior
The EPA
The Bureau of Indian Affairs
or, PETA,
that says that the foxes and indian remains aren’t really
an issue here, proceed, as the solar power is for the good of the planet and will decrease glo-bull warming!
“Aside from tax dollars down the hole, you have to admit its pretty funny.”
My first thought ...exactly. :)
+1000!!
???
Wait until you have figured out who "exits, laughing" with the cash, before you gloat.
Also, better look into who is funding any court cases--that, too, may be tax dollars 'at work'.
This smells of a typical Leftist scam for all involved to become enriched at the schmucks' (we ordinary taxpayers!) expense.
Seriously, is this what the US has come to??
I remember in the 1950s-60s, our elementary textbooks bragging about the dams, water diversions, highways, bridges, power plants, refineries, oil wells, civil engineering, agribusiness, and other achievements of man-over-nature that we’d completed, with no end in sight.
Now we tremble at a snake skeleton, a scampering mouse, a petroglyph, a suspected arrowhead (unless Feinstein has leased the property), three-toed mouse, one-eyed falcon, or saguaro west of the Colorado.
What quivering beings we have become. Government leviathan uber alles.
Never saw it. Can’t bear the thought of a spike lee movie.
Could be, it was Gram Parsons crematoria site out there in the desert.
