Mitt, Rick, and nickcarraway are sinners, and Newt Gingrich is a pure angel. I don’t care for Romney or Santorum that much, but I don’t make any claims about their soul. But I think it’s hilarious that God tells you that Gingrich is His messenger and beyond reproach, and everyone else is a sinner. I don’t think anyone needed to bring immortal souls into this debate. But I guess since you to were bestowed special powers by God to know who his good and evil, the rest of us bad Christians will slink away, trembling before the mighty gifts God gave thee.

I don’t think Gingrich or anyone else believes he walks on water, as you stated in another post, I don’t think anybody has claimed Gingrich is Gods messenger.

If you re-read True Believers post, without anger or defensiveness, you may find a beautiful message in it. It wasn’t posted as an attack at you, True has posted that post before. The first time I read it, I had to leave my computer, step outside for a ciggy and I cried like a baby. The message touched me. It is a hopeful one.

Anyhow, below is a quote Newt made, you will see he claims to be nothing but flawed mortal, one that perhaps has some skills to help us and our country. I don’t think you can fault a man for bringing his tool kit and experience to the table. Hopefully we will hire the most experienced man for the job and the one with the best tools available.

“I only exist because the country is in trouble,” Gingrich said. “The question is whether I can in fact help the country work its way out of trouble. If we had 4 percent unemployment and no foreign threat, I couldn’t be a candidate. It would be absurd. There are 20 guys you could pick in peaceful, calm and pleasant times who would be adequate as president, none of whom have my liabilities.”

I am old enough to remember 1998 and 1999. I was on Free Republic back then. It was critical we get Bill Clinton out of office. Newt Gingrich saved his presidency. The second he was caught having his affair Clinton was saved. And Gingrich knew that. He is a traitor.

Please tell me that your reference to traitor in that last sentence is to Clinton.

You completely misunderstood. I never said Gingrich was God’s messenger. True Believer is.

“I only exist because the country is in trouble,”

Wow, how Obamaesque of him to say. They both think they are messiahs of destiny. That's for posting this quote.

Well, last Sat I believe it was, True Believer was God’s messenger—for me at least. :)

Seriously though, read the post again without thinking it is aimed at you and don’t worry about candidates. Good stuff.

JediJones: “The Republicans in the 2000s had a Republican president, and still didn’t accomplish as many conservative achievements as Newt did under Clinton.”

That bears repeating. Newt Gingrich accomplished more with a Democrat president than the Republicans accomplished when they held both Congress and the presidency. There is no question that Newt Gingrich pulled Clinton to the right. How can so many people forget the defeat of Hillarycare and the budget battles? Newt Gingrich fought for conservative principles and achieved some, and that’s more than can be said for most Republicans.

He got involved with his first wife when he was fifteen or sixteen, She (mid twenties)was his Geometry teacher. She is the mother of his two daughters and he won't say anything bad about her. Today she would have been in jail.

Wife no 2 has an FBI file that says she is “mentally unstable”. Seems she tried to sell influence to some Russian among other things. The plea bargain and Newt's paying for her “help” kept her out of prison.

It was during the six year separation from her that Newt met wife no 3. They became friends, then best friends.
She is loving, supportive, and helps bring some of his dreams to fruition. Plus she is adored by his daughters. Would every American be blessed with a spouse that fits her attributes. She is also the person who helped him find his spiritual side.

The Church annulled his first two marriages. He is given communion and receives God's Grace. Guess you're not a Christian.

Nice job on arguing ideas and facts.

Oh, wait, you didn’t. All you did was use specious guilt by association.

I am fairly certain that is the case. It is not something I hold against Santorum, however. While I am far from a Mitt or Santorum fan, Mitt would have been much preferable to McCain or the Huckster at that point in time.

Who is a liar? You actually believe adultery is patriotism?

Is that your biggest issue? Can a person not be patriotic because they committed adultry? They can be saved despite it and worse.

There seems to be some sour grapes and it it shows a new side - in the past you sounded much more rational.

>>You actually believe adultery is patriotism?<<

You may want to pay attention to what Christ said about the lost sheep that had gone astray and came back. How the prodigal son was treated and how Paul was brought to faith in Christ and repented like Gingrich did. Do you also dismiss what Paul wrote because he persecuted Christians?

Newt Gingrich's quote: “You want to understand why I finally decided to just go and be this blunt? In 1995, Nancy Reagan at the Goldwater Institute says, ‘Ronnie’s torch has been passed to Newt. OK?”

Actual quote from Nancy Reagan, in context: “Just take a look at the extraordinary men and women who make up the 104th Congress, and, of course, this distinguished Speaker Newt Gingrich [gestures to Gingrich]. The dramatic movement of 1995 is an outgrowth of a much earlier crusade that goes back half a century. Barry Goldwater handed the torch to Ronnie. And in turn, Ronnie turned that torch over to Newt and the Republican members of Congress to keep that dream alive. I know that Ronnie believes it will succeed, and that the American people support their efforts.” Note the key phrases: "and the Republican members", "it will succeed", and "their efforts" -- all referencing the congress, not an individual person.

It is statements like this which give fuel to those who see Gingrich as somewhat self-aggrandizing. Claiming a personal endorsement, as the rightful heir to Ronald Reagan, based on a partial quote taken out of context, is a pretty "bold" action.

The PROUD GOP establishment ran Newt out of government. And we do have the history of their accomplishments since. Given the literal history, Newt is NOT taking out of context the remarks made by Nancy. The PROUD GOP enlarged their ‘big tent’ planting the PROUD as their tent pegs and today they are little more than a TARP. And these that promote and protect the politics of sodomy have no shame.

Not only is your classless rhetoric older than your tired, worn out disinformation, it reflects your intellectual dishonesty. But more so, when you go out of your way to condemn and disrespect the man the way you do, it merely illustrates who and what you truly are. By comparison, you could not qualify for a lace in the honorable speaker's shoes. And your own pathetic life is a direct result of what you have accomplished or the path that you have chosen. And I hardly think you can even claim 1/100th of the amazing things Newt Gingrich has achieved in his phenomenal life.

By repeatedly making deep personal cuts and assassinating Speaker Gingrich from behind your keyboard unchallenged, you think you are so clever in the belief that you are getting away with it. But in the end, we all lose, because you are contributing to destroying his chances of winning, even though it is ever so small.

In the event that Romney wins, you will be the one to complain the loudest, we can be sure. And in your ignorance, you will have not a thread of remorse for doing your part to make that happen, because you are incapable of understanding what it is you are actually doing.

Does that excuse you from what it is you are doing? Not at all, because you have been repeatedly opposed and warned about what you are doing.

I couldn’t have said it better but you do know some people just don’t get it.

They already have their opinion and so they can look at just about anything and justify it.

Probably because they need to, who knows.

Where did that come from, adultery has nothing to do with patriotism for or against.

I bet you would have refused to vote for Benjamin Franklin as well?

Newt Gingrich saved his presidency. The second he was caught having his affair Clinton was saved.

Well, Nick, I believe you've earned the Best Rewriting of History of the Day Award from the Mitt Romney Historical Society.

Newt's affair was not public knowledge until after he was reelected in 1998 and subsequently left Congress. If it had been, the media would have plastered it all over the place and he surely would have neither run for nor won reelection.

That news didn't come out until Newt was engaged in divorce proceedings with his wife the year after he left Congress and the year after Bill Clinton was impeached.

http://articles.latimes.com/1999/aug/17/local/me-1039

Marianne Gingrich told the Washington Post that she was informed of the affair and the request for a divorce last May...Marianne Gingrich told the Post she was "totally shocked" by the news, and her attorneys last week obtained court permission to interview Gingrich and Callista Bisek

So if Marianne Gingrich was "shocked" about it in May, 1999, 6 months after Newt left Congress and after Bill Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998, please explain your timeline on how the affair had any effect on the impeachment debate?

I don't personally think that people who make up lies deserve to be members of this forum.
