Rick Santorum is running ahead of his rivals in Tennessee, a stronghold of evangelical Christians that votes on March 6, Super Tuesday.
Thirty four percent of likely Republican primary voters said they were backing Santorum, while 27% named Mitt Romney, 16% backed Newt Gingrich and 13% picked Ron Paul. The poll was taken by American Research Group February 8-9, when voters would have known about Santorum's sweep of voting contests in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado.

The Left is gleeful about this hype.
Will the dense ‘Conservative’ electorate prevail?
Its time for Newt to drop. Santorum has the momentum and Newt has too much baggage. Fair or not he can not win now. All he does is split the Conservative vote - time to take your own advice Newt.
Go Rick Go!!! Great news!
Godspeed Newt Gingrich!
I saw Santorum’s I thought it was great. (Not Reagan great but wins elections against Obama great.) I won’t see Gingrich until later tonight.
In the "baggage" dept., Santorum is considerably more risky than Newt because of that.
GODSPEED NEWT GINGRICH.
Add this to his national polling numbers and to his polling numbers against Obama. I heard he got a great reception in Oklahoma earlier this week too. I hope we get a poll from there soon...
Have you considered building up Newts merits instead? I mean he is a good guy and you must have some good reasons for supporting him. Think about trying to keep your enthusiasm up by posting those reasons.
I believe Newt is done. He made too much of an ass of himself.
I expect him to take as many as he can down with him.
I am interested to see who wins the CPAC straw poll. Maine should be interesting tonight too.....Ron Paul may take that. Santorum winning the South is incredible. See having principles pays off.
GODSPEED NEWT GINGRICH.
Stop me.
You don’t know what “baggage” Santorum has because he’s not been vetted,
Are you kidding? Bashing someone on the way they dealt with the death of their son can not getting any lower and cruel than that. I think after losing a child, the Santorum’s can take whatever is sent their way. Plus, they have already heard it all from haters all over the place.
Not saying Rick should drop, he has a right to be in the race - but Newt is the only real alternative to Romney. We may still lose with Newt, but it would be like throwing a hail mary that might really force actual change. Gingrich would articulate conservatism like no one else in the race can (even if he hasn't always walked the walk), go after the media in a way few other politicians could, and otherwise potentially change the dynamic of the election. Santorum can't do that. Rick is a bland, not particularly charismatic guy who has been stereotyped into a corner as a social issues candidate - and this election will be about the economy not social issues.
That Santorum is actually doing well speaks more to how poor our field of candidates really is, not how terrific Rick is as a potential nominee.
It matters little I suppose. With Newt and Rick both in the race, the chameleon will eventually be nominated and we will go back to having another empty RINO shell as a nominee. Coulter and others will wet themselves with glee, but we all know Romney is not a conservative and can only win if Hussein makes so many mistakes he literally implodes.
The only reason that Romney’s still running is to hand the nomination to Paul. It’s time Romney drops out.
Would like to see RS drop out. He doesn’t offer enough change in the direction of the nation.
Are you really so callow as to actually believe Newt will do what he says he will do? Really?
There are a few women who knew him intimately, and accepted his most solemn promises who thought the same thing. If you think that said substantial fraction of the electorate hasn't noticed, I've got news for you. This is why, in instances when Newt wasn't on the ballot, Santorum beat Romney to a far greater degree when the converse was the case. Santorum's support splits equally with Newt and Romney, the opposite is not true, when Newt is out, Santorum gets the bulk of his support.
Where I'd love to see Newt is as Chief of Staff or Secretary of HHS. He knows the system and where the skeletons are likely to be found. Unfortunately, his preferred means are just as reversible as those he seeks to undo. In many respects, he is as autocratic as Zero.
Go Newt!! Donated again today to Newt.
Our country needs his toughness, wisdom and willingness to fight Washington elites.
