As I understand it from a buddy in the industry, what this means is that they start pouring nuclear-grade concrete almost immediately, like this week.

So you’re a shiver-in-the-dark kind of guy?

I’ll believe it when the first megawatts reach residential customers from these plants.

"They sit on their comfy sofa with their cat and make ignorant, sweeping statements, all the while pining for a pastoral, idyllic, one-world society. A world that ultimately leads to shivering in dark caves and munching bushes with rotted teeth."

And they will be the first to whine, complain, riot, and devolve once the power is out to feed them their welfare checks, or when they can't get on Facebook to organize some queer or marxist parade. Even the "Occupiers" had to use a toilet occasionally. No power to the water utility? No power to flush. Sit in your own feces and pray you can replenish your supply of batteries for your lanterns so you can continue to degrade public lands.

Sometimes, I kinda wish the entire US would experience a total blackout for a couple of months. Then, let's see what the Marxist eco-nuts and welfare queens/kings/ and other associate "gimmes" do? Of course I'm not serious because it would also impact the good folks.

That is my concern as well. See the Bellafonte timetable- http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/19/science/earth/19nuclear.html

Guide our course Lord.

Sadness. We still don't know what the H*** we're doing with nuclear fission. NOBODY knows what to do when a Japanese type meltdown occurs. No good.

If we have to go nuclear, we need to accelerate development and deployment of nuclear FUSION.

Transparent political move by Bam to offset energy related re-election criticism for disapproving the pipeline

The Left blocks tapping oil reserves in the name of environmental whatever, but releases nuclear fission, the most dangerous form of energy to man, beast, flora, and fauna??? Savage is right - liberalism really is a mental disorder.

Just don’t put one near me, any of my loved ones, or any food source that I might want to use in the next few decades.

Thanks for the ping. Now maybe I can start making real money again. 25 years ago, nuclear workers were making 30/hr plus 280 per diem. I wonder what the rate will be now?

They WILL be built, and they WILL operate.

And sooner or later they WILL have an accident that NOBODY will know how to handle.

Please, just don't build one near me, any of my loved ones, or any food source that I might want to use in the next few decades

We're building nuclear plants again!

Good! I was a pipefitter on three nuke plants in Washington. 2 new construction and the third one was shutdown for maintenance.

Oh, and I don't glow at night. :)

Bravo, well said. A bit hyperbolic, but close enough. What really would happen is grinding poverty and earlier deaths for many. We’re not that far away from it, on a historical timeline.

So a hundred posts...and no FReeper replies?????

What the hell?

I'm not surprised the Fed's here are freeing up monies to do this now. Considering....solar and wind monies have been @#%^#$^# "lost"....back to the DNC.

Now, I'd guess....the nuke guy's are getting in line...and not above taking Fed $$$$.

Playing right into the Obama plan.."Do whatever I have to do energy wise"...to get re-elected.

There’s something about the Shoreham thing that has always bothered me.

Before the first stick of fuel was loaded, the utility and the state had the agreement to abandon the plant. Why did they even bother to take it to criticality? As you know, it makes handling the fuel ever so much more difficult.

I may be a bit cynical but I believe this is totally political. Two in a red right to work state? See Keystone Pipeline and Boeing in South Carolina.

There was a very quick reply (#11) and even quicker pull by the moderator; so quick I didn't have a chance to see what it was.
