ROUND ROCK Gov. Rick Perry came out swinging Monday in his first speech since dropping out of the presidential race, attacking President Barack Obama for misguided socialist policies and vowing to remain in the public fray.
I'm not slipping off into the sunset, Perry told a friendly GOP audience. We've got plenty of work to do right here in the state of Texas. ... And I've got plenty of fighting left in this old 61-year-old body.
Perry was accompanied by his wife, Anita, for his speech at the Williamson County Republican Party's fundraising Reagan Dinner.
The governor said he wouldn't trade his unsuccessful presidential run for anything that I have ever done in my 60-plus years of living and called this the most important election of our lifetime, whether I'm on the ballot or not.
Republicans nationally are united in knowing that we cannot afford four more years of ... misguided socialist policies from President Obama, said Perry, who has endorsed Newt Gingrich but said that any of the GOP hopefuls would be better than the Democratic incumbent.
Perry was introduced by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who is running for U.S. Senate. He praised Perry for entering the national arena, saying, If it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger.
The governor seemed determined to show strength Monday after his disastrous national candidacy, touting his stands against raising taxes and what he terms excessive regulation, and his support for policies that restrict abortion.
Perry talked up states' rights and hit the Obama administration on regulatory and energy policies. He accused the administration of trying to appease pro-abortion radicals who fund their campaigns by not allowing a waiver for Texas to exclude Planned Parenthood from a family-planning program.
Stop it, Mr. President, Perry said.
Perry left the presidential race more than two weeks ago after a series of faltering debate performances and campaign-trail stumbles sank a candidacy that started late but high in the polls.
Since dropping out, Perry has used the social media site Twitter to showcase activities including target practice (he said he hit an egg at 100 yards), morning runs and prayers for Rick Santorum's daughter Bella, when she was hospitalized.
On Monday, Fox News aired an interview with Perry and his wife.
I haven't left the fight. I just went home and rearmed and reloaded my mags, and I'm going to be fighting on a different front, Perry said in the interview.
Perry ping.
If anyone is intersted, that is....
Zero will get more flak from Perry than from Romnuts...
Thanks for the post. I will always be in Governor Perry’s corner. This will be an election, regardless of the nominee, where the best man didn’t win. IMHO.
“Angling for a Veep job”
I assume you are referring to this quote from Perry....called this the most important election of our lifetime, whether I’m on the ballot or not.
That’s the way I read it too. Except, in Perry’s case, he puts thing differently than the way he means them sometimes.
Anyway, if such were the case, since he actually endorsed Gingrich I would think he would be angling for Veep under Gingrich, not Romney. And I do not think Romney would offer it to Perry under any circumstances, in that there are reasons it is personal between those two. JMHO.
If only the other 56 states had a year between legislative sessions, not to mention the Congress. That's always been part of my reform platform, besides term limits; reduced Congressional session timeframes, sunset clauses for all legislation except for national defense, and many others I've suggested in articles I've written.
Where was this during the campaign?
"Don't retreat, reload"--SP
I’m still interested. The race has had many twists and turns. I wish he didn’t drop out.
Gotta like a guy not afraid to throw a 2A analogy in the face of the enemedia !
Perry / Palin independent Tea Party 2012?
What we got now, sure as heck ain’t working.
“This will be an election, regardless of the nominee, where the best man didnt win. IMHO.”
Roger that.
” We’ve got plenty of work to do right here in the state of Texas. ... And I’ve got plenty of fighting left in this old 61-year-old body. “
Good, then start preparing for secession from the USSA, because if the current resident is put back in for another 4 years, what we’ve experienced for the last 3 will be nothing. We have oil, gas, lots of agriculture, 50 million guns, fishing, tourism, etc. We don’t need the rest of the USSA as much as it needs us. Oh, and Rick, don’t forget to solicit OK and a few like-minded states - its always better to stick together.
Rick Perry, angling for a veep job with Willard? No way.
I’m glad to hear from Governor Perry. For me, he will remain the man who would have been our best choice for president. I really hope he’ll run again nationally at some point.
I agree with you 100%.

There’s no more certain method to assure Obama’s reelection. I am beginning to be resigned to (yet again) have a Republican candidate who clearly isn’t conservative - yet is, nonetheless, head and shoulders above whomever the Demonrats could ever nominate.
That is what the media is doing now, except the gophers are giving up, one by one.

.Interesting set of thoughts. Perhaps the first set is the cause of the second, which is then the cause of the first?
I’m not giving up, mind you. But looking at things objectively, any time a conservative (or at least more conservative than Romney) candidate takes the lead, he/she is immediately subjected to withering fire from the entire Republican establishment - and not a few Dems (which can only lead to one conclusion). IOW, it looks like the fix is in, same as in ‘08. I hope and pray to be wrong, and I will not give up until everyone but Romney is no longer standing.
