Newt Gingrichs postNevada caucus speech included about three minutes of inspired moments about issues and ideas in his usual imaginative and intellectually robust style. So why does he not just stay with that given that he often seems more dynamic and glib than Romney in his attacks on Obama, and not long ago gained ground despite the attacks against him? Instead, he now turns ad nauseam to the tired reasons why he loses yes, including lots of Mormons in Nevada and ends up as Richard Nixon not going to get kicked around any more.
But whether he knows it or not, Gingrich is becoming a caricature of petulance: no concession in Nevada, no call to Romney, no awareness that his inability to raise money at levels of a political rival or to match a competing campaign organization is not necessarily unfair. Thats politics, and Gingrich knows it. I dont understand why he thinks now losing to Romney in 2012 is solely due to Romneys innate deviousness in a way McCain beating Romney in 2008 was not given that Romney was about the same in both 2008 and 2012. Gingrich seems oblivious to the fact that McCains style and history gave him advantages over Romneys money and hardball in ways Gingrichs own proven liabilities apparently do not.
Gingrich should carefully play a tape of his postNevada caucus performance, and then he would quickly grasp that it was little more than a litany of excuses, whining, and accusations characterized by stream-of-conscious confessionals and rambling repetitions. And, I think, will hurt him more than anything yet in the campaign.

Perhaps when you become indistinguishable from the MSM you become part of the MSM.
Yes Newt looks unhealthy....I wouldn’t be surprised if he isnt hiding some health issue...
It worked in 2008 and appears to be working in 2012 at this time.
No doubt Perri Caliente is still in the race ~ but not as a candidate. He had a few million saved up to run, and he has access to more!
Making veiled and undecipherable remarks is your stock and trade.
He is now in a fight against the establishment GOP. We on the other hand right now are saying this is not our guy and we dont have to hold our nose again and vote like we did for loser Mccain even if we dont like Newt. Wierd. Either way they all seem to be working to get zero re elected.
He might be tired from campaigning and the associated activities.
He’s 68.
Does well for someone no longer young.
To speculate that he’s “hiding a health issue” adds nothing but does do potential harm.
It’s like rumor mongering based on NOTHING factual.
Perry walked out of the race with somewhere in the neighborhood of $17 million. I really do think he'd love to be Vice President.
He chose to back Newt and not Santorum.
The Leftwingtards have totally excluded him and his body of donors from further consideration though.
I doubt that Newt has excluded him.
You are probably just now figuring out that sometimes candidates don’t have on the makeup that makes the TV cameras make them look 20 years younger.
This is because the GOP establishment, which includes the "conservative" media, are all in for their guy Mitt, since he won't rock the boat.
Does anybody here really think that the staffers at NRO, or Matt Drudge, or Ann Coulter, or any of the other "conservative" Manhattan set want to see any actual conservative - or even someone likely to stick to conservative principles more often than not - be elected? No way. Remember, even through 8 years of successful conservative governance, Reagan still had his Rockefeller Republican critics who were convinced that his insane cowboy policies were harming the country. These folks are simply not connected with reality.
Frankly, it may be time to break the GOP once and for all, and start afresh with a new conservative party that will reach out to conservative Dems and to independents who care about the little guy instead Mahattan elites. If the GOP establishment doesn't have anything left to be an establishment over, then it has no more power.
If anyone does, my guess is it would be Santorum. In the debate when they asked if the candidates would release their medical records, all were quick to reply yes, except Santorum. He got a funny look on his face and only nodded.
In several different debates as soon as the network went to a commercial break, Santorum would be almost running off the stage. It really looked weird, like he has some problem that sends him to the bathroom alot.
I believe VDH read this one completely wrong.
No, the usual term is infidel.
The writer of this article obviously didn’t see Willard’s
“concession” speech after Gingrich CRUSHED him in SC. Willard said that Gingrich was part of the Washington establishment and only Willard could go in and shake things up. He mentioned character and morals and blah, blah, blah.
He then goes on national TV and has the nerve to say that Gingrich had outspend him in SC and most of the negative ads run in the state were ran by Gingrich against him. Did Faux News call him a the liar that he is, absolutely not. The establishment darling, the ultra New England liberal Romney, is delusional. He has yet to win in a state where there is a level playing field. If the race were on-on-one, Newt Gingrich would be crushing him. And that’s a fac. One more thing, apparently Mormans and blacks do have something in common. If not, please tell me the reason that baby killing, pro-homo marriage-loving Obama gets about 95% of the black vote and Willard the liberal, another pro-abortion, pro-homo-marriage liberal, gets about 95% of the Morman vote. Can you imagine Santorum, Gingrich or any other Catholic candidate getting 95% of the Catholic vote???? Something to think about.
Second, Nevada (and my home state of Utah) are heavily Mormon. This usually conservative voting block will cast away all common sense and vote for “one of their own.” Case in point are my LDS neighbors. These are very conservative folks, but in our conversations make excuse, after excuse for Romney's stands on the issues. They even laud the fact that he never disowned Romneycare. My guess is, Newt will pick up steam in the states that don't have a high LDS voting base.
What I find most disturbing, is that most LDS suffer from “victim syndrome” and would be appalled if someone chose NOT to vote for Romney because he WAS LDS. This hypocrisy is breathtaking. Oh, and to those drinking the media Kool-aid dumping on Newt for this that and the other; my guess is you wouldn't have lasted a day in his shoes. If you can do better, step away from the keyboard and run. I mean, afterall you seem to know exactly what he and others should do.
Six years after the remark was made, after a loss for the California governorship.
the thing I loved best about last nights news coverage.... they must of mentioned Mormons about 1,000 times :)
I was thinking ... FINALLY ! Anyone who didn’t know Mitt was a Mormon and was watching the news last night sure knows now!
