Newt Gingrich will stay in the Republican presidential nomination contest despite an expected loss to Mitt Romney in Saturdays Nevada caucuses, the former speaker told The Washington Times late Saturday afternoon.
We had excellent fundraising meetings and calls yesterday, Mr. Gingrich said. Super Tuesday and beyond look good.
The Georgia native thus dispelled rumors circulating in the press that his campaign had scheduled a press conference for late Saturday, after the results were in from the Nevada caucuses.
We will probably be a solid second here with [Rick] Santorum in last place, Mr. Gingrich said, while acknowledging indirectly that attracting donors and voters in sufficient force to overtake Mr. Romney will be a challenge in the coming weeks.

“You cant even visit a mormon church if you arent mormon.”
I do business with the local Mormans and am in their churches all the time both escorted and alone......have for years......
OMG, everything I have read from you is an attack on Newt. Show me where you have defended Newt. Show me where you leveled the same attacks on Mitt for his "scorched" Earth absolute negative ads (99%) against Newt.
Mitt with his "whiny" ads (13000+ to Newt's few hundred).
Mitt is a loathsome liar and an evil power-lusting leftist who lies about being a Conservative.
[Best example: Romney underperformed tonight and Newt took a district Romney won last time. Instead of pointing that out, Newt says he knew hed lose because There are a lot of Mormons here. That was just dumb.]
It’s true. It is also exactly what FNC said in 2008 in dismissing Romney’s win over McCain too.
I too though wish Newt would have given a speech, but I think he was afraid FNC wouldn’t show it. He also doesn’t have the money Mittwitt has so a press conference is an effective way to get his message out.
FNC is so in the tank for Romney it is sickening.

49 Mitt Romney
42 Newt Ginrich
11 Rick Santorum
That may change slightly
Romney and Santorum have been more nasty in the campaign than Newt.
Yet Newt gets called on it.
Excerpt: "ODonnells understanding was that, following the Florida primary this past Tuesday, he would be tendered a formal offer to advise Romney on debates going forward.
And several sources in and close to the Romney camp said there had been deep consternation internally over the press ODonnell received and the pre-emptive, how-we-did-it Times story, which quoted Romney adviser Russ Schriefer among others.
The piece, said one campaign insider, made the candidate himself seem like an afterthought in reviving his own campaign.
The campaign held a conference call this week, multiple sources said, in which a clear message was delivered Romney pulled himself back from the brink after South Carolina, and no one else did it for him.
Romney made his feelings jarringly clear when he was asked about the Times story in an interview Monday on the Today show.
I think you can expect advisers to think that the work of advisers is very, very important, but frankly, I think if youre to go back and look at where the sentiment changed, it was with the debates, Romney told Matt Lauer."

Hey, old timer. :)
I listened to Newt and he was most passionate about the misinformation from Mitt during the second Florida debate. The message I got was that Newt will begin to dismantle the Mitt message in the next debates. Newt told how he held back his response in that last Florida debate and, if you listened very closely, he revealed that he is playing things very differently in the next debates. What Newt wants to do is make it more and more clear that Mitt is not up to the task to take on Obama. Newt revealed that Mitt has an Achilles’s heel: he lies and when the American electorate catches him on it, he loses.
To be fair, I went and checked out some of dear Williams posts and he is fairly evenhanded, and even sometimes above the fray, and maybe a little bit wise even - but not tonight!! He is really grumpy and getting on my nerves! And what I loved about the press conference, Newt was talking over the heads of the media, right out into the heartland and the hearts of his supporters... It was a very nice strategery...
He won’t. Too arrogant and self absorbed.
Running for Romney’s VP.
His has always been a vanity run.
Yes, way too big a job for him.
I vote that Bishop Mitt Romney go back to running his local Moron ward.
Just concentrate on the blue ball for five minutes, then donate what you can! |
When is the next debate?
Newt’s speech is coming up in about an hour.
It is the Temples that are forbidden, those giant, shiny, Temples.
