Cathy McMorris Rodgers could be the fall vice presidential surprise
The Daily Caller ^ | Feb 3, 2012 | Will Rahn

lthough largely unknown outside her district in eastern Washington state, Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers could be the next U.S. vice president.

First elected in 2004, McMorris Rodgers is now in her second term as vice chairman of the Republican Conference, which makes her the highest-ranking Republican woman on Capitol Hill. She has built a significant amount of behind-the-scenes clout, and has become one of her party’s most influential leaders on issues like international bailouts, earmark reform and the fight against Obamacare.

McMorris Rodgers also has the kind of compelling life story that political operatives always look for. The daughter of produce farmers who operated a fruit stand, she was the first member of her family to attend college. She earned her MBA from the University of Washington in 2002. By the age of 24, she was a member of the state House of Representatives.

Married to a retired U.S. Navy commander, McMorris Rodgers is also one of only eight women to have ever given birth while serving in Congress, and the only woman who has done it twice.kn

Your ignorance is tedious. McMorris Rogers is a good egg, from what I recall. The VP float is probably just to highlight her as a political 'star' ... don't think she'd be seriously considered.

Gotta love it when a newbie, such as yourself, calls someone else ignorant, then uses a vague "from what I recall" statement with the astute analysis that she might be "a good egg".

You'll go far like that - the locals will see to it....

"I don’t like the idea of The Narrative. I think it is … a barnyard epithet. And, oddly enough, it is something that Republicans are not very good at, because it’s not where they live, it’s not what they’re about, it’s too fancy."

I don't often agree with Peggy Noonan (not anymore, anyway) but she's right about the "narrative thingy". It's a Democrat thing and conservatives look silly doing it.

No worries....Santorum will be the pick....right after he puts the final nail in Newts coffin....

Me thinks the fix is in....I wonder how much PAC money he will get from Willard as part of the deal....

I am DONE with her. I will be contributing to, campaigning for, and voting for her opposition in the future.

Does that mean you are becoming a Democrap?

Yeah, my ignorance is vast, I have only followed politics all day, every day in multiple mediums since 1992

No wonder all you can do is yawn! That sounds incredibly boring.

She was Cathy McMorris when first elected to Congress; I'm surprised as an expert that you never noticed her name either in a roll call or as one of a select number of open seat races when first elected, or as a member of the House leadership team, or while being periodically highlighted by the SBA List or other groups as one of Congress's pro-life women.

The RNC can have secretly constructed a biomedical clone of Reagan to run as VP with Romney, and it still won’t make me interested in voting for Romney.

I cannot be expected to memorize each Congressman's voting record, surely. As it turns out, my recollection has been born out as accurate by other respondents: she's generally conservative but, like most Congresscritters, certainly not without fault.

Unlike the FReeper I criticized as ignorant, I don't claim to know everything worth knowing, and so left the specific commentary to her constituents, who know her best.

I agree with you I heard her being interviewed by a local radio personality and it was embarrassing her lack of constitutional knowledge. I wish we could get a true conservative primary challenger to send her packing.

I am sure she is a decent person; however, she has no national name recognition. Conservatives all knew who Palin was before she was picked and we liked her!!! ...the elites sure don't want that to happen again!!!

This sounds like a tactic by the elites to pick an non-entity whom they can control and who will not be a threat to their plans for whomever is “next in line” for the GOP nomination 4 or 8 years hence.

(I'm thinking this will probably be Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio if Romney fails ...and, before someone asks, I am definitely NOT a Bush fan and Rubio showed his true colors in FL last week! Of course, this same strategy applies to whomever the elites have in store to foist on us in 2016 and 2020 ad infinitum. Unfortunately, they will always be in control; since most will likely continue to be frightened into voting for big government liberals of the Republican stripe.)

“McMorris Rodgers is also one of only eight women to have ever given birth while serving in Congress, and the only woman who has done it twice.”

WOW! That is one hell of an accomplishment! She got impregnated while she had a job, and she gave birth while she still had a job! AND SHE DID IT TWICE! You GO, GIRL!

THAT IS ****ING AMAZING! Why should she be Vice President!? Hell, she should be president FOR LIFE with a resume like that!

Let’s see we could have Mitt the BiG Gubment Liberal Douchebag and Cathy McNobody Shmobody...

Amazing, stunning, I think I’m going to fall right the hell out of this chair.

YAAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNNNN.

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to submit a post like that and remove all doubt.

You can think of me whatever you want, dude.

I can tell exactly how politically inept you are, you are literally perfect for the GOP.

You should run for RNC chair.

Dark horse VP talk. I don’t care for the double last name, just pick one Cathy, maiden or married.

Her religion is unspecified Christian. Which means Nondenominational Protestant AFAIK.

Not likely to deliver her state though she’d help.

I wish she’d run against Cantwell, all we have in the race is a State Senator, Michael Baumgartner, and some random doctor.

Not to compare her to Palin but that is exact same thing people said about her before she was chosen. I and other political junkie freepers were talking her up for the role before 95% of freepers outside of Alaska had heard of her. And low and behold.

The point being don’t count out a VP candidate cause you haven’t heard of them, some of us that are more engaged have. After they are chosen they all get 100% name recognition, if a candidate has a good record and story that offsets them being lesser known. Dozens and dozens of names will be suggested, this lady is as worthy as any of a mention. I hope she runs for Senate in the future.

If Romney wins he should pick Gingrich. If Gingrich wins he should pick Romney. That way even the sore losers will have someone to vote for, excluding of course, the 500 or so who voted for Santorum or Paul.

I can tell just from reading this thread that she be a real firecracker of a pick. I mean, the GOP can produce super stars from its ranks like nothing I've ever seen.../s

Please, by all means, continue the preparation of this sacrificial lamb.

Yes, pick a woman no one outside of her state ever heard of before and run her as VP to a candidate that we don’t really want (Romney). That worked so well before. s//>
