Donald Trump endorsed Mitt Romney for president Thursday, saying he's impressed by the Republican candidate's debate prowess and believes he could easily beat President Obama in November.
"Mitt is tough. He's smart. He's sharp. He's not going to allow bad things to continue to happen to this country that we all love," Trump said in Las Vegas, telling the candidate to "go out and get 'em."
The real estate mogul, speaking briefly with reporters before the announcement, said that even though he "never knew" Romney before the race began, he's come to know him in recent months.
"His general attitude and the last two debates were very impressive," Trump said.
He also cited Romney's position on China, calling the former Massachusetts governor

Newt has to be careful about criticizing Trump’s endorsement of Mitt so as to not sound like a crestfallen suitor. He,Newt, is quite a sharp debater so I think he can find words to say something gracious like “ I can see where Trump’s achievements can fit more properly with Mitt’s achievements but their achievements are not what my candidacy is all about. We want to have every citizen achieve a level of self sufficiency that the Founders planned would be possible according to the Constitution, we need unfettered down to earth opportunity.’
Oh, lighten up, already....it was only a figure of speech stealing the enemy's own slogan and using to literary advantage.
I swear FR is getting riddled with a bunch of toothless old crones of both sexes with no sense of humor, and no appreciation of satire, irony, allegory, parody, sarcasm or any other time-honored tools employed in writing the English language and literature.

Wonder how many millions Romney paid him for his endorsement?
Mu husband and I laughed as we looked at this podium bedecked with a line of flags behind it. There is Mutt Romney and behold out comes The Donald to make his glorious and well thought out original endorsement.
The only thing missing was the emblem on the front of the podium that said “Office Of The Newly Crowned Wannabee President-Elect”. Cheap Suit Productions. LOL
Must admit, never saw this coming. Thought Trump was a Newt fan.
Hey there little pissant..... you came to FR last fall for one reason, to relentlessly bash Rick Perry. Was he the one that scared you liberals the most at that time? MOST what you call ‘birthers’ know a lot more than you think they know and are NOT given the runaround easily.
How about this? I think you’re a troll, time will tell. Did you say this about Newt?
Gingrich ‘prepared to take the heat’ with talk of amnesty (”Let’s be humane in enforcing the law”)

“I think we should all be grateful to Newt. Judging from the polls, a good analogy would be the conservatives had stars in our eyes, thinking our ex Newt had finally changed. And like every other time, he screwed us over. Luckily, he did so before any vote was cast.
Thanks for the memories, Newt. Dont hit your ass on the way out. And say hi to Ricardo for us, maybe you guys can get a job with La Raza together!”
PHONY ....LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!
The Fix is in—Donald is just jumping on the bandwagon with a lot of other folks. I hope he gets something for his endorsement—a chance to stay in the Lincoln Bedroom or something. This tells it—Newt is finished—Mittens is the one. One good thing—there will be no Trump 3rd Party run in 2012. I wonder what Mitt promised Trump for this? VP slot?
That is an utterly ridiculous position to hold.
Neither Romney or Trump are conservative, but at least Romney is somewhat beholden to a right of center voting block. Romney will at least have to throw the occasional bone to conservatives such as court nominations, cabinet positions, undersecretary's, etc. Trump as a 3rd party candidate would not be beholden to conservatives at all. He would not govern as a conservative, and would not have to care what conservatives think.
Romney is not himself conservative, but is politically schooled enough to at least understand how to pretend to be one. Trump wouldn't know conservatism if it beat him upside the head. With Trump, you could easily see he didn't understand conservatism by the way he played to a caricature of what he thought the majority of conservatives wanted when he was pretending to toy with a primary run.
Romney is a RINO. Trump is an absolute clown.
Laurel wreaths on Mitt's and Donald's heads would have been a nice touch, too.

“He should never have been considered a hero on this site to begin with. It is stunning what is considered great around here.”
The gloating and preaching really does not become you. You’ve made it clear,,,abundantly,,you disapprove of the opinions of some of your FELLOW freepers,,you feel superior, you’re better than everyone else,,
get over yourself already
If Mittens is the nominee - we lose.
Another sell-out.
Shiny white boy with the same exact record as 0bummer is a losing bet.
Mittens can say whatever he wants. 0bummer just has to reply: “So did you”
This is a set-up. Bammy gets two terms.
Think about what that means. Think about where we are. Think about how many of these so-called conservatives are selling their souls to re-elect The 0ne.
It was a lousy year for Republicans. If there really was any good conservative candidate out there, chances are he or she knew how bad the odds were and didn't run. But really, was there anybody who didn't run who could have run and won?
2008 - Where was the candidate who was more conservative than McCain who could have won? Huckabee? Romney? Giuliani? Keyes? Duncan Hunter? Tom Tancredo? Ron Paul? Sam Brownback? George Allen? Allen Keyes? Jim Gilmore? Maybe Fred Thompson? Good luck with him.
McCain was a lousy candidate. Like Dole he didn't have the drive to win, but where was the candidate with the skill and drive and popularity and effectiveness to beat McCain? And after the stock market slumped could any Republican really have won?
My point is, somebody gets nominated, rather than nobody. Some real, existing candidate who's in the race, gets the nod rather than some imaginary or hypothetical candidate who ought to exist and run but doesn't. And in a bad year the chosen, real, existing candidate, who's far from ideal, loses.
Sometimes he loses because of his own mistakes or weakness, but the hypothetical candidate, who doesn't exist and doesn't run doesn't win either, and the candidate who's more conservative than the others but doesn't have the appeal or the ability to win primaries also doesn't win the nomination or the general election.
So I'd say, yes, nominate the most conservative candidate we can. Nominate Gingrich or Santorum or somebody else, but if and when that candidate loses, it would really clear the air around here and air out some bad arguments.
ROFL!!! That’s hilarious!
If you hate it so much, why not go start a site with just your own ideas and opinions. And, one where you can slobber devotedly over your chosen one?
The birthers idolized empty suit Trump, I was only speaking the truth.
As for that comment, I was pissed at Newt for his immigrant pandering answer. Since then, it’s become obvious he’s the best of this lot however.
What would you expect? I’m sure you’d see similar comments about anyone - especially those candidates who won with conservative vote and now support Mitt. Just think of drudge.
Romney is a lying snake who I will not vote for after the way he and his campaign smeared Newt and all his competition out of the race. He couldn’t stand on his liberal record so he destroyed his competiion instead. I WILL NOT vote for Romney. Now I have conservative pundits trying to tell me that Romneycare is conservative and that Romney is conservative. They are moving conservatism left so the label fits their chosen one and it makes me sick.
He is dead to me now.
Donald kissed up to the GOP establishment and to the Mormon power in Nevada (and they are powerful in the gambling world).
