LUTZ, Fla. _ Newt Gingrich insisted Sunday that Mitt Romney, who is leading him in the polls in Florida by double-digits, will fail to win a majority of votes in Tuesdays primary and then will not be able to muster a majority of delegates by the time of the Republican nominating convention in August.
Romneys got a very real challenge in trying to get a majority at the convention, Mr. Gingrich told a gaggle of reporters spread across a sidewalk outside a church here in this Tampa suburb.
This party is not going to nominate somebody who is a pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-tax increase liberal, Mr. Gingrich asserted. Look, its not going to happen.
He never used the words brokered convention, but he painted a brokered-convention scenario.
We have no evidence yet that Romney anywhere is coming close to getting a majority, Mr. Gingrich said. And I think when you take all of the non-Romney votes, its very likely that at the convention there will be a non-Romney majority and maybe a very substantial one and my job is to convert that into a pro-Gingrich majority.
He vowed to mount a straight-out contest for the next four or five months and said he would go all the way to the convention.
Mr. Gingrich clearly hopes that Rick Santorum, who has been competing with him for conservative support, will eventually join his side against .....

The only question is - Will Newt take Sarah Palins call to arms and Rage against the Machine?
Palin, Perry, Cain, Thompson are now in for the people- Newt has to be committed to inspire the insurgency.
I'd love Newt to be the nominee, but it's becoming clear that outside of SC, women in huge numbers will never vote for him. His own past is killing him.
I think he needs he needs to come forward and give a straight forward address talking about his past indiscretions and talk about his finding redemption with God. Not too many people really know that in recent years Newt has connected with his faith in recent years.
This is possible. Newt may lose, but that doesn’t automatically make Romney the inevitable nominee. Many of those who do support Romney are lukewarm in their support (Ann Coulter is one example) and are in his corner only because they think he’s the most electable.
Romney can’t win enough of a majority to carry the necessary delegates. There is going to be a tremondous rage over the “out districting” of Allen West that will resonate across this country and the Tea Party movement will surge, unite and fight. MY hope is that Santorum drops out and that Bachmann (unless she endores Newt) stays out of the Minn race. There are a lot of states that will go with Newt. Consider what Fla is now? it is a melting pot that has a ton of smudge in it...lol. This fight is FAR from over..Fla or no Fla!
Last time around McCain sewed up the nomination by winning only 30-35% in each primary.

I understand- valid point. But that didn’t work out to well, did it? Hopefully, people have learned.
Women in SC voted for Newt. Newt has explained all this and it is on his site. It is outrageous that ignorant voters have not taken the time to read it. IF anyones past should kill them it is Romneys! he is a full blown socialist

Our little town is in the news positive for Newt!
Florida like Iowa like New Hampshire will not tell us who to nominate for our party.
Florida is turning into a toilet.
I’m very happy to see that Newt is committed to staying in the race. I like how he’s bringing Perry and Cain with him. Santorum too can be part of this Non-Romney plank.
We go into the convention and we may have 60 to 70% of delegates are non-Romney. Then what? By then they’ve coeleseced around Newt.
The fat lady hasn’t even put her clothes on.
Explain, how are South Carolina women so vastly different?
“Palin, Perry, Cain, Thompson are now in for the people...”
Yes, and that’s why it was doubly disappointing to watch Michele Bachmann’s performance on Face The Nation this morning.
Agree, it wasn’t long ago that everyone was saying whoever wins SC will get the nomination..now its Fla. They do this in every primary. The battle is just beginning. Paul’s supporters are never going to Romney and IF Santorum gets out most of his support would go to Newt. The last nationwide poll shows Newt ahead
Rmney are lukewarm in their support (Ann Coulter is one example) and are in his corner only because they think hes the most electable.

I am an Ann Coulter fan all my life- but her recent opinions suggest she has, for whatever reason, altered her views. Her statement that she now disfavors Sarah Palin “because of her fans”— is incomprehensible. Those Palin fans are the very people who put Ms. Coulter where she is today.
“Explain, how are South Carolina women so vastly different?”
They are younger and more conservative.
Yes, and thats why it was doubly disappointing to watch Michele Bachmanns performance on Face The Nation this morning.

ngat, didn’t see it. what did she say that was disappointing?
Scheiffer opened the door wide for her to endorse Gingrich, twice, and she firmly declined.
And we are capable of thinking for ourselves.
I could have gone all year without that imagery.
1. I believe Newt WILL take the fight all the way to the Convention Floor, shouting, fist fights and all:)
2. He'll need OUR money to do it as he won't be getting much from other quarters.
3. If the fight lasts to the Convention, we can win it there.
Remember 1964? Remember 1980?
These fights can be won.
