I just went to that url post.
I just read the replies too. I love the one about the parrot.
Also Judith-Anne had a nice story about a quilt. God Rest her Soul!!RIP!! Dear Sister!!
Thanks for posting this thread Brad’s Gramma. We pray everyday for the return of our country.
Oh Yes, I been praying.
If we need a miracle, then we need a miracle!
How good it feels to be among all of you as we pray for this dear country. The tears are really flowing as I type these words, and my heart aches for the good that people are capable of, if they so wish it.
Dear Lord, please help us, we pray. Give us the wisdom and guide us in the right direction. Please give us the courage to do what is right. Thank you dear Lord, and may this great country and its people find their way out of this darkness and into your light. Amen.
The Prayer at Valley Forge
"I knew personally the celebrated Quaker Potts who saw Gen'l Washington alone in the woods at prayer. I got it from himself, myself. Weems mentioned it in his history of Washington, but I got it from the man myself, as follows:
"I was riding with him (Mr. Potts) in Montgomery County, Penn'a near to the Valley Forge, where the army lay during the war of ye Revolution. Mr. Potts was a Senator in our State and a Whig. I told him I was agreeably surprised to find him a friend to his country as the Quakers were mostly Tories. He said, 'It was so and I was a rank Tory once, for I never believed that America c'd proceed against Great Britain whose fleets and armies covered the land and ocean, but something very extraordinary converted me to the Good Faith!" "What was that," I inquired? 'Do you see that woods, and that plain. It was about a quarter of a mile off from the place we were riding, as it happened.'
'There,' said he, 'laid the army of Washington. It was a most distressing time of ye war, and all were for giving up the Ship but that great and good man. In that woods pointing to a close in view, I heard a plaintive sound as, of a man at prayer. I tied my horse to a sapling and went quietly into the woods and to my astonishment I saw the great George Washington on his knees alone, with his sword on one side and his cocked hat on the other. He was at Prayer to the God of the Armies, beseeching to interpose with his Divine aid, as it was ye Crisis, and the cause of the country, of humanity and of the world.
'Such a prayer I never heard from the lips of man. I left him alone praying.
'I went home and told my wife. I saw a sight and heard today what I never saw or heard before, and just related to her what I had seen and heard and observed. We never thought a man c'd be a soldier and a Christian, but if there is one in the world, it is Washington. She also was astonished. We thought it was the cause of God, and America could prevail.' "He then to me put out his right hand and said 'I turned right about and became a Whig.'
Today, in 2012, it is again the Crisis, and the cause of the country, of humanity and of the world.
I have to apologize to you two and to ALL of my Jewish friends here on Free Republic for not including you in this thread. For possibly making you feel unwelcome.
America is a Judeo-Christian country. Not just a Christian one. This thread is for ALL who believe in G-d, not just Christians. YOU have a stake in this too...
Please accept my apology, if I did hurt you.

A ping to (I hope?) all who posted on this thread tonight. This is NOT MY THREAD. This is yours.
I’m probably not going to monitor it too much. I ask you to bump it, to continue to pray for America, for her future.
If Newt is who God wants in office, it is Newt we shall pray for!!! For in doing so, we’re praying for each of us...
Thanks everyone for the kind words tonight, for the Bible passages, for the prayers...may God richly bless each of you and your families.
Psalm 48
The Glory and Strength of Zion
A Song. A Psalm of the Korahites.
1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God.
His holy mountain, 2beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.
3 Within its citadels God
has shown himself a sure defence.
4 Then the kings assembled,
they came on together.
5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded;
they were in panic, they took to flight;
6 trembling took hold of them there,
pains as of a woman in labour,
7 as when an east wind shatters
the ships of Tarshish.
8 As we have heard, so have we seen
in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in the city of our God,
which God establishes for ever.
Selah
9 We ponder your steadfast love, O God,
in the midst of your temple.
10 Your name, O God, like your praise,
reaches to the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with victory.
11 Let Mount Zion be glad,
let the towns* of Judah rejoice
because of your judgements.
12 Walk about Zion, go all around it,
count its towers,
13 consider well its ramparts;
go through its citadels,
that you may tell the next generation
14 that this is God,
our God for ever and ever.
He will be our guide for ever.
And PLEASE remember Rick Santorum’s family in your prayers....
We pray for the voters who will be singing their hand to the candidate of their choosing now in the days ahead....move them favorably toward Newt even if it might be at the last minute.
And thru this election may you be seen and heard among men Lord. For your honor and your glory...and in your Name ..Let truth be known..Amenp>

My prayer for Newt is offered in the form of a sacrifice/penance. No wine for me as long as he keeps on fighting!
Holy Spirit: please be an inspiration,
“This Universal Prayer has been attributed to Pope Clement XI from the 18th century. This prayer provides a good outline of what we need to do we strive for sanctity and Eternal Life, as citizens-in-training for Heaven!
My God, I believe in You; strengthen my faith. All my hopes are in You; secure them. I love You; teach me to love you daily more and more. I am sorry that I have offended You; increase my sorrow.
I adore you as the Author of my first beginning. I aspire after you as my last end. I give you thanks as my constant Benefactor, I call upon you as my sovereign Protector.
My God, be pleased to conduct me by your wisdom; to restrain me by the thought of Your justice; to comfort me by Your mercy; to defend me by Your power.
To You I desire to consecrate all my thoughts, words, deeds, and suffering, that henceforth I may think of you, speak of you, refer all my actions to You greater glory, and suffer willingly whatever You shall appoint.
Lord, I desire that in all things Your Will be done, because it is Your Will, and I desire that all things be done in the manner that You will them.
Grant that I may always esteem whatsoever is pleasing to You, despise what You abhor, avoid what You forbid, and do what you command.
I beg You to enlighten my understanding, to inflame my will, to purify my body, and to sanctify my soul.
My God, give me strength to atone for my sins, to overcome my temptations, to subdue my passions, and to acquire the virtues proper to my state of life.
Fill my heart with tender affection for Your goodness, hatred of my faults, love of my neighbor, and contempt of the world.May Your grace help me to be obedient to my superiors, kind and courteous to my inferiors, faithful to my friends, and charitable to my enemies.
Assist me to overcome sensuality by self-sacrifice, avarice by almsdeeds, anger by meekness, and carelessness by devotion. My God, make me prudent in my undertakings, courageous in danger, patient in trials, and humble in success.
Grant that I may be ever attentive at my prayers, temperate at my meals, diligent in my work, and faithful in my good resolutions.
Let my conscience be ever upright and pure, my behavior modest, my conversation kind, and my actions edifying.
Assist me that I may continually strive to overcome the evil inclinations of my nature, to cooperate with Your grace, to keep Your commandments, and to work out my salvation.
My God, make me realize the nothingness of this world, the greatness of heaven, the shortness of time, and the length of eternity.
Grant that I may prepare for death; that I may fear Your judgment; that I may escape hell and in the end obtain heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.’
