"Romney slumps to 24%, his lowest level since before Iowa caucuses"
PRINCETON, NJ -- Republican registered voters nationally continue to prefer Newt Gingrich over Mitt Romney for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, with no sign in Gallup Daily tracking from Jan. 22-26 that Gingrich is giving back any of his recent gains.
The 32% of Republican voters now choosing Gingrich as the candidate they are most likely to support for the nomination is his highest level of support since the 2012 primary voting began in early January. The 24% supporting Romney is his lowest. Despite the heavy media focus on the two front-runners, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum are each holding their own at just under 15%, putting the two men in a statistical tie for third.
Bottom Line
As the Jan. 31 Florida primary nears, Gingrich remains at the top of the GOP field in national Republican preferences for the nomination, and his eight-percentage-point lead over Romney, in second place, is his widest since mid-December.
Gingrich's latest eclipsing of Romney occurred in Gallup Daily tracking from Jan. 19-23. That interviewing period spanned the South Carolina debate, as well as the South Carolina primary, which Gingrich handily won. Since then, Gingrich has not only maintained the lead but expanded it slightly, indicating that Romney's sharpened rhetoric, combined with various attacks on Gingrich by such major Republican Party figures as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Bob Dole, hasn't been particularly harmful.

I will be praying that Newt can pull it off in FL where is is being out-spent in a major way!
As soon as Santorum drops out, Newt will start racking up the states.
We need to get this one out there to combat the Florida spin. The republican elites are going all out on Newt...and I fear we’ll be stuck with Mittens. I used to think I could vote for mittens if I had to but after last night’s debate he lost any chance of getting my vote. I think I’d go 3rd party now. And that makes me sick to know we’ll be stuck with Obama for another 4 years—thanks Republicans.
Yup. Mittwit is an empty vessel. Conservative accomplishments: Zilch.
Let’s hope it holds. Romney must be stopped.
Ping-a-ding-ding!
The MSM is still saying if Romney wins FL, it :may be the end for Gingrich”. HUH? He is LEADING nationally, and FL now has only 50 delegates because of the RNC punishment for moving up their primary. This race is far from over, no matter what the outcome.
Finally! some good news. Since Fla is a winner take all (delegates) IF Newt loses ..will this have an impact? I had no doubt that Newt would have won Fla but then the smears came out. Praying for a miracle.
Romney hired a debate coach. It is Bachmann’s former coach.
Mitt is going to have a couple of good states after Florida. But if New can pull off a better than five point drubbing of Mitt there it should be enough to at least split the primaries until Super Tuesday. Then Mitt goes into the dustbin of history.
National polls mean nothing at this point in the race.
State-by-state primaries and caucuses will determine who runs against Obama. Many of us — and many of those polled — will have no say whatsoever in the process if Romney racks up enough delegates before we get a chance to vote.
This national poll does not encourage me one bit. What we need is some clear thinking in Florida.
I continue to believe that Newt is going to prevail.
Anyone still trying to decide who to vote for, need only look into their children’s eyes, the answer is right there waiting for you.
GO NEWT GO......this is not just about picking a president, its about the very survival of our country!!
Encouraging! Just hope those good folks in FL do the right thing next week, and help keep Newt going forward. My theory is that the more desperate and nasty Romney gets, the less people like him. Newt needs time to continue to get the conservative message out, in sharp contrast to Romney’s empty promises and scripted soundbites.
I wish more attention was spent at the state level where we need to focus on sending more conservatives to Washington. Without a change in the Senate leadership and greater margins in the House I don't think much will change in this country no matter who becomes President.
Santorum is not our friend. He is a vulture hoping Newt implodes. On the merits that will never happen to Newt and Rick Santorum knows it. He is waiting for Newt to be vaporized by the executioners and then he wants to pounce.
That is distressing to the core and conscience of a man.
Rick scores by making points off the Newt/Romney squabble and belittles it, when he has eyes to see a knee cap operation going on and stands by like the pedestrian he is.
Wish I knew why the national and Floriduh polls are so divergent. Counterfeit Mitt is ahead in FL, if polls are to be believed.
Ater Rick drops out (WHO goes back home and off the campaign trail 4 days before FL?)...
I think Santorum’s 15% Gallup number will go about:
Newt 9
Willard 5
Nutjob Ron 1
cont. from my last post...
Newt 32 becomes Newt 41
Newt 24 becomes Willard 29
You made my day, Dear. The media has been extremely depressing today.
