PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) Rick Santorum is tired, almost broke and going home.
The former Pennsylvania senator is taking a pause from Florida campaigning just days before the Tuesday primary that even he expects to deal him a third consecutive loss.

It's the right thing to do.
The arrogant little puss will refuse to do that.
Much as I like Rick Santorum, it’s time he step aside and call it a day.
He far exceeded expectations, especially with the win in Iowa, but he’s not going to win the nomination.
You had a good run, Rick, but it’s time to take one for what’s left of the “team.”
Santorum needs to put the conservative movement before himself and leave the race and endorse Newt.
I am glad he did real damage to Romney at last nights debate though, and at least he will be able to leave the race on a high note.
At least you’ll be able to say you won Iowa and had the adventure of a lifetime but we do have a country at stake.
This prickly, one issue loser should drop out and endorse the winnable conservative in this race (Newt).
even thought Newt didn’t have his greatest night last night, at least Rick did get a few good shots at Mittens.
After the way he bashed Newt for telling him (truthfully, it seems) that he had no money or capability to continue, he blew his chance for a Gingrich/Santorum ticket, which would have been great.
Unless -!- he maks a VERY GRACIOUS exit and tosses his endorsement to Newt, hopefully before the vote in Florida.
WRONG!
Santorum was the only real human being at the debate. I think he deserves all our respect and admiration.
Endorse Newt, my eye. Ridiculous. Newt stands for what exactly?
The crap about "anti-immigrant" was pathetic. Mittens tried to milk it for far too long.
Me thinks the Mittens protesteth too much!
SECOND consecutive loss. He won Iowa.
“This prickly, one issue loser should drop out and endorse the winnable conservative in this race (Newt).”
It’s not that he’s one issue. After all, he’s the one who knocked Romney last night. It’s just that he’s out of his league.
Imagine if I was running. haha everyone here would probably love what I’d have to say but I wouldn’t know what I was doing and my candidacy would hurt us more than help.
I heard Santorum on FoxNews this morning say that he was going home for a day or two to gather up his tax forms so they can be released to the public and that he would be RIGHT BACK in Florida as soon as he could after that... that he'd only be gone a day or two.
I know if someone wanted my tax return I'd have to open the safe to get it out so I don't find it unusual or a sign of a bankrupt campaign that he is going home to get his tax documents.
Of course the article COULD be accurate, but considering the source I'm VERY skeptical that it is.
As much as I like Rick and think he would be a better man for the job, Its time for him to pull out.
Maybe a Newt/Rick ticket is in order. Both are the smartest the party has and could be a Obama beater.
Santorum was good last night — the only adult on stage, basically. He’s my favorite. But since he has no chance, maybe he can cut a deal with Newt - endorse Newt in exchange for VP position. That would give him OJT for 4-8 years to be a very viable candidate later.
I hate Newt. I hate Romney. I laugh at Paul. Still, all are better than Hussein, whom I DESPISE!!
Out of his league, and remarkably unimpressive....
It’s like Mitt and Newt were having a sword battle and just as Mitt was getting the upper hand, Santorum with his last dying breath reached out and sliced Mitt’s achilles heal.
Rick, you will be our hero if you drop out now. If you don’t then drop out after the primary and let these two debate the issues one to one.
Newt is a visionary. We need you, too in a big way, but country needs Newt. NOW.
Please help by considering all things and dropping out now. Use the money and the endorsements to run again for the Senate.
He can be a hero to the Conservative movement or a selfish villain. This will tell what he is made of.
Pray for America
Geesh, it has only been 12 hours since Rick said “I’ll stay and campaign in Florida through Monday.” I wonder what changed his mind overnight? Did a major donor pull out?
