High school football players arrested for on-field assault - with photos (R.O.P. alert)

DEARBORN HEIGHTS — A figurative beat down turned literal beating has led to the felony arrests of a group of local high school football players.

Police arrested four Star International Academy seniors Wednesday on aggravated assault charges stemming from an altercation in the team’s last game of the season.

The players -- Mohamed Ahmed, Fanar Al-Alsady, Hadee Attia and Ali Bajjey, all age 17 -- are accused of gang-beating Lutheran Westland’s quarterback as time expired in Lutheran’s 47-6 drubbing of Star on Oct. 21.

According to numerous witness statements gathered by police, Lutheran’s quarterback was set to take a knee to run out the clock. Before the snap, referees told both teams to refrain from contact, police said.

After the snap, however, the four arrested Star players burst through the line and allegedly manhandled Lutheran’s quarterback. Police said they ripped off his helmet, threw him to the ground and punched and kicked him repeatedly. The incident came to an end after coaches, players and refs stepped in and broke it up.

The first string quarterback of Lutheran High Westland goes to my church. We talked to his dad the Sunday after the game. If I remember correctly - this was last October after all - his son had to leave the game because he got his eyes raked in an earlier play. He may have gone to the ER too, for that.

Putting in your second or third stringers and giving them a chance to play is the honorable thing to do.

They already had the Junior Varsity on the field.

My suspicion is that the team was headed for some sort of post season or championship play and a fight would have cost them in their league.

Your suspicion was just confirmed by the assistant coach on local radio.

If you have a good team you ARE a band of brothers.

Agreed. The best teams learn that lesson fast and gel quickly.

Football is the perfect metaphor for warfare. It is a ground acquisition game.

The quarterback also known as the field general...must be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun.
With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

And therre is so much more. The players have to know each other as if they were in the same fox hole together. Situtuational awareness on the battle field. Reporting the weakness’s of the enemy to your superiors (Assistant Coaches). Covering your budies back. Keeping each others spirits up on the bench. And learn your trade.

I was told something profound by a D.I. in basic. (Now you KNOW I am full of crap) LOL He said “Look around you. There are no blacks, white or browns here. YOU ALL GREEN!”

Follow-up to my post #59:

As suspected, the incident occurred at the conclusion of the last game of the season for Star International Academy, supporting my theory that the offenders knew in advance that they had nothing to lose in so far as discipline or punishment in the football sense - if they were seniors. The game was over, so the game officials couldn't mete out any unsportsmanlike conduct penalty or ejections. And they couldn't be suspended for future games, because this was the last game of their high school football careers.

So, from the perps' perverse point of view, why not cause a little mayhem, and at least "win" something, if not a football game. After all, Star International Academy didn't win a single game all season, and, believe it or not, in seven years of varsity football had compiled the woeful record of 2 wins and 59 losses!

Judging by the team's horrendous game performances and its outrageous conduct, you would have to wonder how they could continue to field a football team in the future without huge changes in the coaching and administration. But then again, "normal" American sporting standards don't necessarily apply to Muslim youth.

Perhaps the assault charges will teach them some respect, but I doubt it, I expect suspended sentences.

Because they were more concerned with raising hell against the infidels than their performance on the field.

But it peeves the hell out of me to watch a team with a 41 point lead kneel on the ball and run out the clock

It peeves the hell out of me to watch a team with a 41 point lead attempt to continue to score with only seconds left on the clock.....

Any attempt to advance the ball or try to score in the remaining seconds of the game will only create the possibility of the winning team incurring an unnecessary injury to a player.......

.I'm extremely surprised that you don't realize that.

It's a local story for me, but I wouldn't have known about it had not a college age friend on Facebook, and graduate of LHW, posted a short message about the incident. I did a Google news search and finally found a couple of articles about it.

Because they were more concerned with raising hell on against the infidels than their performance on the field.

The more you look at this, the more likely that this incident was premeditated. In fact, it could have been planned when they first saw the schedule - that last game vs. the (infidel) Lutheran school. For them, it was a fitting way to end the season and end their football participation.

Football is the perfect metaphor for warfare.

That metaphor has been used for a hundred years or more, but it's certainly not a perfect metaphor. Football involves controlled violence. The type of physical contact that can be made with an opponent and the times that such contact can be made are defined by the rules of the game. The "weapons" aren't considered lethal. Deaths on the football field are fortunately very rare. And the rival teams and coaches traditionally shake hands after the game is over, not brawl with each other.

In the case at hand, the defenders of the Arab-origin Muslim youths are trying to take the metaphor too far by claiming that assault and battery are just part and parcel of the sport, and therefore, according to them, all youths playing football are vulnerable to criminal charges, but the Muslims are being discriminated against by prosecutors just because of their ethnicity. But they are wrong. Even on the football field, there is no place for uncontrolled rioting, especially after the game clock has expired.
